Back in the day my buddy kept raving about Ultima Online. I had no idea what Ultima was, but now I'm starting to re-visit the classics. I hope Ultima VIII makes it to the GoG lineup! /hint :D

Same here. I bought the game back when it was first released and never could get it to work. Though with the magic of DOSbox am I able to play the game.

yeah it was hard to get those origin games to work.
I'm really hoping Ultima 7, 7.5, 8 and 9 make it to gog.com! Come on EA and gog.com! Give us lots of Ultima! ^^
I haven't played the Ultima Underworld ones before, these are pretty cool! I was only a baby when the game came out, so you can't blame me for not trying it yet ;). I just bought a bunch of games off the internet site, and Underworld is the first I'm playing. I love olde school dungeon crawlers.

It's too bad there's only 2 Underworld games, seems like they should have got some more sequels like the other Ultima games.

Arx Fatalis was intended to be Ultima Underworld III but the developers couldn't secure the rights. The story is set in its own universe because of this, but apart from that it shares the gameplay concepts of the previous games along with some interesting additions (such as drawing runes to cast spells). It's a must-have for any Ultima Underworld fan, and fortunately GOG sells it. :)
Arx is really good and comes highly recommended to any Ultima Underworld fan. Only problem is that it is buggy, some strange ones in there too.
i did buy arx fatalis based on the recommendations, but the game wont even start for me. none of the suggestions on that forum seem to help either. i got windows 7 64bit, 580gtx. i think if u have standard comp it will probably work though.

Do you get any error message? What happens when you try to start it after install?

There has been posts about non-working fullscreen, so you would try to play around with dosboxULTIMA1.conf (or dosboxULTIMA2.conf for Ultima Underworld II) file to :

1. Disable fullscreen (fullscreen=false)

2. Change game renderer (output=opengl, ddraw, etc.) There is help available about the renderers on the configuration file

3. Change resolutions :
fullresolution=1024x768
windowresolution=1024x768
You may try to use your desktop resolution, and also resolution 0x0 might help sometimes.

Actually I think he's referring to Arx Fatalis not working.

Secret doors are found throughout. They have a slightly different appearance (since the texture doesn't blend perfectly with the rest of the wall). Some only open from one side. I think they also say "you see a secret door" when in the examine mode (the eye button).

A good place to start looking for secret doors is by exploring the waterways on each level. You'll find areas this way that you wouldn't find otherwise, some of which lead back to the rest of the level through secret doors.

Each level is almost entirely filled, so if you have blank areas on your map you know you have more to discover. Some areas can only be reached by entering from a different level, however.
