Hi,
Just another dilemma with my u6 wanderings...
And yeah although I'm far from the end i'd still say don't read if you haven't play-throughed...
It's a great game, don't want to spoil anyone's fun!

Having been wondering the moonstones' purpose.
I have got all 8 of them. Then tried one and got a moongate out of it.
I put it next to the drawbridge of Lord British's Castle.
I was wandering can I ever get the stone back now, since it's been buried in the ground.
I have tried waiting for the moongate to disappear but that never seems to happen.
Even tried using all the runes with their mantras and nothing happens to the gate.
One rune caused an effect similar to a dragon summoning a daemon but I don't see anything else happening.
Just though about it, 'cos I've been to the Gargoyle city, and read the book of Ritual in the Hall,
and am at the moment trying to get the Codex and the second lens.
By sheer chance I wandered into the cyclops castle and got the Vortex cube from there :)
But yeah, just wondering if it is a bug or not that I can't get that moonstone back...
I suppose they are needed in the Ritual.

btw. I seem to have found a bug in the game, the Britain's bar has now closed its doors permanently to me :)
The game says 'Not usable' when using the door.
Maybe I did something there, drank too much? It's daytime, I can see there are patrons and the owner inside, through the windows... But the door is locked. After people leave the bar, they lock the door afterwards. My lockpicks don't work... Tried explosives, ended up killing someone while the door opened...

Re: moonstones, yes you can get them when the moongates are down which only occurs when there are no moons in the sky. I remember this also being an inconvenience, so I think the first time this happens I would go and move the moonstone one spot south. The game would still consider it "buried", so both the moongate and the stone would be visible.

Odd situation with the door. I've never seen that happen before.
oh okay. Thanks for the reply. It's nice to know the game that I have been trying to beat for a fifteen years
is still beatable...
Just need to break that inn door with a powder keg if it becomes necessity to visit the place :)
Yeah, it's an odd thing, maybe it's the windows 8.1 doing something to break U6 :)
IIRC the inn can become unopenable if something happens to the innkeeper.

As for the moonstones: "planting" them in various places allows them to function as waypoints. You will need to collect them to finish the game, though.
I recommend storing all the moonstones in a safe place (like in a chest in Bastle Britain) until you need them near the end of the game. In my playthrough I used to get various chests, barrels and crates from the castle and put them all in my room, then use that room as a sort of base of operations where I stored all the things that might be useful: gold I didn't want to carry around, weapons, food, quest items and so on. You can always teleport around using the Orb of the Moons, so I didn't really need to the blue gates.

Even if you don't want to build a base you should store the stones in a safe place anyway. I had a weird glitch where one of the orbs dropped underneath the shrine, but I didn't know that. I searched the whole wide world for one stupid little rock and was kicking myself for not taking better care of them. Eventually I decided to use a cheat to move unmovable objects and then i found the stone under one of the altars. That wouldn't have happened if I had taken better care.
