I'm on my first playthrough with Ultima 1, but I'm running into a problem, I can't seem to figure out how to complete my first quest with The Lost King. He asks me to slay a gelatinous cube, which I do, then I return to him and he just gives me the same dialogue when I Transact with him and gives me the quest again. I see no indication I've received the reward of the red gem (I looked it up since I'm so perplexed). I've now repeated the quest half a dozen times killing gelatinous cubes in various dungeons then returning. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? I've checked ZStats and I don't see a red gem or anything like it in my inventory, and he doesn't provide any new dialogue or any indication that I've completed the quest when I return to him and Transact, though when I return after having killed a cube he doesn't say "thou art on a quest for me already" but he asks me to slay another cube giving me the initial quest dialogue again. I've scoured the internet for information because I figure I can't be the only one with this problem, but I can't find any answers so I'm turning here. If I've completed the quest successfully, how can I tell? Is there a way to see what gems I have?

Thanks for the reply. I am 100% positive. I'm returning to the Castle of the Lost King. I've also restarted my game 3 times now with 3 different characters and cannot complete the quest for the life of me (or at least know if I can complete the quest). Does the red gem appear in ZStats when you collect it? Or is there a way to know if you have it?

Ok, that's good to know that they appear there at least. I think I'm going to put it down for a bit since I'm tired of slaying gelatinous cubes and returning to get nothing except the initial quest dialogue again and try Ultima 2. My goal is to at least try each Ultima game and see if it pulls me in. Ultima 1 did, apart from this damned issue. I'll pick it up again later after a fresh download and install just to be sure.
