The other reviewers have thorougly and correctly ripped the gameplay - oversimplified base and asset management, World War 1-style two-dimensional pitched gunfights, and an overall sense of hasty and incomplete design by a novice development team. What drove my motivation to play through once before is the compelling narrative established by the FMVs that accompany completed research. A strong example (no spoiler) is the FMV once you successfully research the origins of the Twilight. On my first play-through, the endgame battles were boring enough that I used god-mode for most of them, and saw both endings. Once GOG releases the sequel Aftershock, I'll play through both just to experience that atmosphere again. Apparent, the third entry Afterlight is a different plot arc that takes place on Mars.
