Tower of Time keeps crashing at start up.
Nice message saying that it would be nice to send crash report to developers, but no address where it to send
to.
- updated graphics driver (NVIDIA) to latest (399.07 - 08-27-2018).
- restarted computer.
- try to start game as administrator.

No result, game keeps crashing on startup.

Anyone out there with the same problem?

Regarding this particular issue - it is most likely caused by some faulty (incompatible) codecs used by our in-game player.
We had few cases where this special codec -- nikon_dec_avc -- was causing the crash. Solution is to uninstall or update this particular software.

If that is not the case, we will be happy to assist you via option 1 or 2.

Where to find this "nikon_dec_avc"? So i can remove it.

(installed the game on Linux (OpenSuse Leap 15.0) and it runs fine...

After installing the codec pack K-lite problem was solved.

Yes, uninstalling the Nikon software will work, but if you don't want to do without it, you can also install the 32-bit version of the Nikon software, and ToT will run without crashing at startup.
(You can find both 32-bit and 64-versions at the Nikon download center)

Technical explanation:
The crash of with the Nikon software is caused because Nikon installs certain filters on your system (directX Show) that overrule the standard ones. These filters are not buggy or unstable, as far as I know, but the problem is that they are only compatible with 64-bit applications if you install the 64-bit Nikon software. This means that 32-bit applications can't work with these filters, and so problems occur like the crash of ToT.
Installing other 32-bit software, like the codec pack, which also overrule these filters, solves the same issue, although I am not sure if the Nikon software will still function perfectly when its filters are overruled.

Mine is doing this as well. What is a codec pack and where would I find it?

I solved this problem by downloading and installing the K-Lite standard pack. You can do an internet search for "K-Lite codec" to find where to download and install instructions.

Initially my game would hang on launching and crash.
I tried all of the things in this post and the game worked once. (win 10 64 bit)

Installed the k lite "standard" codecs, ran as administrator etc.
I could not actually find any reference to the suggested Nikon filters on my system so unable to remove those to troubleshoot in my case.

Any way, the time I did have with the game was great!
So, as a last resort I tried the Windows 10 compatability wizard on the .exe in the game folder - run with recommended settings and it mysteriously decided the program was incompatable with Windows 10 and set it to use Windows 8 compatability mode.

Then, on the properties of the same .exe file, under compatability make sure "run as administrator" is ticked.

You should then at least be able to launch it with the .exe in the game folder if not via gog itself.


If you have a shortcut to the game on your desktop, again for the actual shortcut properties select compatability for windows 8 plus ensure run as administrator is also ticked.
Now the shortcut should launch everything correctly too - allow it to make changes if it asks too.

Tested the game with those settings and it launched flawlessly for me, so maybe that will help someone out.

I don't have this Nikon software on my computer, and mine is crashing. I played it yesterday for the first time and it worked fine. Today I'm trying to resume the game and it crashes when loading every time.

Edit. Never mind, I set it to run as administrator and it worked. That's all I had to do for some reason.
