Hi,

I'm trying to play multiplayer between mac and a PC over TCP/IP. I can create a game on the PC and see it in the mac. However, when I attempt to join from the mac, it just hangs for a while on the mac until the lobby refreshes, and I see the screen on the PC flicker like something tried to happen.

If I create the game on the mac, I can enter the battle room, but the first row is empty with the text "unused" instead of the player's name. If I attempt to click on one of the "unused" buttons below the first row, I get the error, "Direct Play failed to add new player." Also, I can't see the game appear on the PC. I've attached the screenshot of the error.

Note: I can play single player games on both devices just fine.

Try the community patch 3.9.02. You can get it on http://www.tauniverse.com/

I don't see how to run the patch which is an exe on the mac though. I don't see any way of getting into the wineskin environment. Also, it looks like the patch never worked on mac according to this thread: http://www.tauniverse.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43488

later...

So I figured out how to run the .exe in wineskin. However, I get the following error during install:

[SEH_AV_READ_NULLPTR] ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at address [0x004b32c8]

This is the same error reported in that thread I linked to in my previous post.

much later...

I found this thread: http://www.tauniverse.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43966 with a process that the op says worked for him... but its getting late and I will save that for tomorrow.

With the help of several forums, I was finally able to install the community patch. Things are slightly better in that when I create a game on the mac, the first row is properly filled in with the player details. However, I still can't see the game show up on the PC.

When I create a game on the PC, I see it on the mac but when I click join, it just hangs for a while and does nothing. I disabled the firewall completely on the mac. And the firewall is enabling TA connections on the PC.

So I'm giving up now. I've been able to do PC->PC multiplayer TA so I'll just stick with that. My mac-using friends are just out of luck.

Hmm, does Mac->Mac work? Either way worth sending in a support ticket and seeing what support says.
