man, torchlight 2 is awsome! you can get a demo of it if you'd like, and let me tell you, you will be impressed. they pulled the camera back some and added new classes that are awsome! on top of that, your pet can be a ferret!

other then that, its pretty much the same ol torchlight goodness!
The ferret's there in the first game as well ;-)

I'm kinda dissapointed with the decision to go with Steamworks, I thought the appearance of T1 on GOG was a sign of DRM-free commitment. But then again, Steam is a form of DRM I can live with so I'll probably pick it up sooner or later.

I'm on the fence too but I think I'll wait because I haven't even finished T1 yet.

shoot T2 is so good, that you'll want to put away ALL OTHER GAMES including T1 to play it. it blows T1 out of the water.

and there are new pets, i'm sure of it. some sort of alein looking thing with a bunch of arms or something like that. and a bulldog
On release, Torchlight 1 only had a cat or a dog as the pet options. The ferret was added in a patch later, and I'm pretty sure it was actually a fan-made mod that got officially incorporated into the game.
The first Torchlight has so many hours of fun play in it that I'm missing the idea of T2 less and less. I only wish there were a more active and extensive community like one gets with new games.

And as with all such games, I wish there was the equivalent of Diablo 2's ATMA program for managing inventory. It's easy to spend half your time playing and half your time shuffling inventory around between characters, which can turn this sort of game into a sort of fantasy version of Closet Organizer: The Profession.

Ooo. ATMA, i need to check that out. never heard of that. but i tried to stay away from trainers before. but an inventory manager sounds kinda fun.

also, one of the T1's mods is like dozens of chests for storage which could help organize sets. i was thinking of adding it to my mods for T1. it sounds like we love to collect in the games and the games themselves. :)
@Waltorious: I didn't know that! That's kinda awesome :-) Only played the game since it came out on GOG.

Now, can anyone tell me how heavily steamworks is actually integrated with the game and is it at all probable that a non-steam version might someday arrive? I'm almost afraid to ask though :-(

Oh yeah, buying and selling and hoarding and trading is some of the most fun for me. It's what keeps the fun alive after you've already been through every map a few times.

Warning: back up your runic games roaming folder before you install that mod with the extra chests. I'm glad I did. It's great to have all those extra chests. But they wipe out every inventory on all your characters except your single shared chest. Much as the mod is cool, I didn't want to lose so much stuff.

there isn't nearly as much stuff to find in torchlight 2. the monsters rarely ever drop anything, but you do find a lot of chests. it just seems like i got all the way to level 6 without filling my inventory up all the way once.

jdiamant2: Thanks for that tip bro.

No Steam required sounds good, but I don't like "with 10 installations" part. It looks like you must activate the game in order to play. Sounds simple, but limited number (even large as 10) is not good, because if your PC will break (and after fixing it you will reinstall T2) or you will do a major upgrade (like new motherboard/CPU/hard drive), the game may request another activation. Techlically it should be possible to reset the activation limit (after using all 10) by contacting Runic support, but overall, I don't like this form of DRM.

I will wait for DRM-Free version on GoG, without limits like that.

This is probably a good thing... the vast majority of stuff I find in Torchlight 1 is junk, so hopefully in the second game item drops are more useful.
