Is there an option to always display item name for loot on the floor? Sometimes I have to point my mouse to a location to see (accidentally) that an item is there...

Yes, on the bottom of the screen slightly left of center should be a magnifying glass icon. Clicking that will be like holding down the alt key, and keep the display names up.
