Hi, it's been a while since any activity here but I wanted to see if this issue ever got fixed? I have followed the instructions perfectly, even being sure to open notepad and save files the proper way, but when I try to run TR1 it just drops out and nothing happens. I'm running 8.1 and not sure if that has anything to do with it. Could someone be kind enough to post a fix? Thanks a lot.
anyone?

chrisdaventry: This worked fantastically, but i cant play TR1 from GOG as the Game goes into a Black Screen when i say New Game.

Sure TR1 works in Safe Mode, but the Graphics are then Horrible.

So in a nutshell, whats the Point in Downloading the Full TR1 Game with the Unfinished Business Levels if the Main Game wont work.
Amen to that. Does the music and Gold work in safe mode at least after getting the music to work? I'd take that as I did get used to the graphical problems later on, all for the sake of working FMVs, but if the music and expansion didn't work through the EXE then I wouldn't see the point.

nudel: Download the TR1 & UB setup v1.6 from http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/tr1_adv.html. It will install to C:\tombraider. Don't try to run anything, it won't work without the original cd.
Instead, if C:\gog is where you installed the gog version of TR1, copy tombeng.bin and tombeng.cue from C:\tombraider to C:\gog\Tomb Raider 1. Delete game.dat from c:\gog\Tomb Raider 1 and rename tombeng.cue to game.dat.
Then copy tomb3dfx.exe, tombub.exe as well as the DATA folder from C:\tombraider to C:\gog\Tomb Raider 1\TOMBRAID. From the latter, delete tomb.exe and rename either tomb3dfx.exe or tombub.exe to tomb.exe, depending on whether you want to play the original with music, or UB.
Now you can simply run TR1 from the shortcut created by the gog installer. If you want to save space, you can delete all of the mp3s and game.gog from the TR1 folder as they will no longer be used. Of course you can also uninstall the version you donwloaded from Tomb Raider Hub above.
My game is installed in D>programs>Tomb Raider 1+2+3> Tomb Raider 1. (not counting the DOSBOX folder above it) does the music fix only work if you do everything exactly as it says or can it allow for different file locations like this one?

The link is dead. I just got Error 404 upon following it. is the site simply mis-coded the page link or has it been removed completely? if so, is there another source for me to fix the music and get Unfinished Business?

I found it on the website. Here's the link:
http://www.tombraiderhub.com/guides/2014/12/11/tomb-raider-advanced-installer/
A simple update to tell to interested people that version 1.7.7 of TR1/UB setup is available, and it's here !

It seems that it's now taking in account if you have the GOG's version installed :)
"Fix for compatibility with all the latest editions and repackaging redistributions of the Tomb Raider 1 cdrom available on the market, such as Superbundle, Gog and Steam packages: all these would go otherwise unrecognized thus causing prior installer versions to crash [v. 1.7]"(amongst a lot of other things)

Since this thread is stickied and I suspect that most people looking to get TR1 working will look here first, I'd like to point out that there's a Windows version of TR1 with full 3D acceleration, widescreen resolution support and music that works wonderfully (i.e. no more DOSBox, low resolution or software rendering!). See the following thread, particularly my reply, which gives my instructions:

https://www.gog.com/forum/tomb_raider_series/tomb_raider_1_native_windows_and_resolution_patch

Credit goes to those who created the various patches and user badsector for creating the thread. I only repackaged some of the patches and created the instructions to simplify things for everyone.

WARNING--------WARNING

Initial scan of this file revealed it to have a trojan.

Subsequent online scans using various online scanners also spotted trojans. I used 4 different ones and all spotted the same tojan,

I would not DL anything from that site.

It is also worth noting that www.tombraiderforums.com no longer exists and the link above is a direct FTP DL link so who knows where this is being hosted and by whom.

Can confirm. Had problems with getting the game to launch via gog/dosbox, after clean install (removed save files also) game works more or less fine as sold (slight cut off/delay in videos and audio clips, though iirc this was also the case on my CD version circa 2012)
The download link isn't working anymore

this wouldn't happen to be the 'Tomb Raider Retail Fix' btw which is on PC gaming wiki?
I downloaded Version 1.7.8 of TR1, and got no trojan warnings from avira, which tends to be rather overreacting.
But I cannot make it to accept my Gog TR1 installation.
"Sorry, no valid Tomb Raider 1 installation has been detected: the game will not start"
Even when I installed it into the same folder as Tomb Rider game.
Has anyone managed to make it work?
