When playing Tomb Raider 3, I adjusted the resolution in the main menu ring to a higher level e.g. 800x600 pixels but when I turn the passport page to new game, the game crashes to desktop. Is there any fix for this because the default 514X whatever it was pixels makes the GUI far too large. This bug applies to saving the game too, even the quicksave shortcut.

Try using this widescreen patch - http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/394-tomb-raider-234-widescreen-patch/

Thank you. I just tried it but it's still bugged. I did change the resolution in the detail level menu after patching so that might be it. I'll try again with a higher resolution in the patch. Nope. It STILL doesn't work. >:( Does GOG read community posts? if so, they should pay attention to game breaking bug complaints like this (see also TR2 music bug still reigns discord). they need to fix this right away. Actually I was wrong. the game crashes to desktop when switching passport page after opening the detail levels menu AT ALL. This time I entered the menu without changing anything in it and it still bugged out. its rigged to crash whenever you simply click on the sunglasses in the main menu or pause menu which is even worse than simply being unable to switch resolution.

I found a way to get around the bug, but it's not exactly obvious. You can change the resolution by running the setup application, which is a bit hidden. Here's how I got it to work:

1. Open the folder where the game is installed (probably something like C:\GOG Games\Tomb Raider 1+2+3\Tomb Raider 3 unless you've changed it)

2. Open a command prompt in that folder (in Windows 8: File -> Open command prompt)

3. Type this into the prompt and press Enter:
tomb3 -setup

4. Select the resolution you want. Press OK and the game will launch. Just don't open the sunglasses menu or the game will crash. After this, you should be able to launch the game normally in the correct resolution.

thanks. maybe I can get the resolution in my disk TR2 to behave itself that way too. (The GOG one's music is still bugged.) Although in that one the cutscenes go out of sync and the background ambient sound mutes after a music track plays. better than looping music tracks but I don't like having the levels completely silent. Brings back bad memories of my bugged as hell sold-out edition of TR1.

That worked for me, many thanks.
I'm curious though. Many years ago when I first bought the game on CD, the install would place a setup shortcut on the desktop, but digital games don't do that.
Is the setup a hidden file? Actually, It can't be as I have all sys files unhidden, so the question is, how to make a shortcut to it?
Thanks for reading this.

There should be a shortcut to the setup program in your menu start. Here's mine (Windows 7), I installed relatively recently from a fresh Galaxy install, after refreshing the system - perhaps you have an older version of the installer?

And in regards to it being hidden - it's not. Tomb Raider 3's executable can launch a setup window when you provide a parameter to it. The second screenshot is how the shortcut from menu start looks like "inside" - apologies for the Polish but you should "get" it from looking at it. Also Galaxy path should have no meaning here - it's the same as installers
