Ridiculo: Here's how to put a separate icon on your Windows 7 desktop to run the Tomb Raider Gold expansion that Eidos made free to download. It contains contains these four additional levels
Shadow of the Cat: "Return to Egypt", "Temple of the Cat"
Unfinished Business: "Atlantean Stronghold", "The Hive"
Atlantean Stronghold continues from the point the original Tomb Raider ended
- Download the 3Dfx version of Unfinished Business from [url= Tomb Raider Site[/url]. The file is called
- Unpack it using 7-zip or similar. It's an exe file and is supposed to unpack itself but it's 16-bit so won't run on later Windows versions
- You should now have a folder containing two folders, DATA and INFO, and two files, and . Highlight these four items (using control-A or with control-mouse clicks) and copy them with control-C
- Locate where your GOG Tomb Raider 1 is installed. The easiest way is to right-click on the Tomb Raider 1 icon and select 'Open file location'. This opens an explorer window at 'Tomb Raider 1 2 3/Tomb Raider 1'
- Double-click on the TOMBRAID folder to go into it and press control-V to copy the files and folders from the Unfinished Business distribution. When the copy is complete (it should take only a moment) you should see the new DATA and INFO folders alongside and the original
- Go back up to the 'Tomb Raider 1' folder and copy the file ''. The easiest way is to highlight the file with the mouse and then press control-C, control-V. You will have a new file called 'dosboxTR - '. Press F2 to rename it to '' and press enter to save the new name
- Edit your new '' using Notepad or similar. At the end of the file is a line that says ''. Change it to ''. Save the file and close Notepad
- Go up a level to folder 'Tomb Raider 1 2 3' and then down into folder 'DOSBOX'
- Right-click on '' and drag it to your desktop. When you release the button, select 'Create shortcuts here' from the context menu. You now have a DOSbox shortcut on your desktop
- Right-click on your new shortcut and choose 'Properties' (at the bottom of the context menu). In the new window that pops up you will see a 'Target:' field which currently contains something like
"C:\Program Files (x86)\\Tomb Raider 1 2 3\DOSBOX\"
Leave that part as it is and add '-conf ' to the end so that it looks like
"C:\Program Files (x86)\\Tomb Raider 1 2 3\DOSBOX\" -conf
(Notice that there must be a space between the double-quote and '-conf')
- Now edit the next field, labelled 'Start in:'. It will read something like
"C:\Program Files (x86)\\Tomb Raider 1 2 3\DOSBOX"
Remove 'DOSBOX' and replace it with 'Tomb Raider 1' so that the field looks like
"C:\Program Files (x86)\\Tomb Raider 1 2 3\Tomb Raider 1"
Click the 'OK' button to save these values and close the window.
- Highlight the new icon and press F2 to rename it. Type 'Tomb Raider Unfinished Business' and press enter
- Your new shortcut should now run Tomb Raider Unfinished Business for you. If you are having problems then open the shortcut properties again and check the two fields you changed
carefully. Then look in the 'Tomb Raider 1' folder again and make sure you have named the '' file correctly
Have fun playing these four extra 'expert' Tomb Raider levels!
Thank you for this post. I've been hoping to revisit Unfinished Business for years.
I followed all the steps you gave but my copy of the file '' does not have any line that says '' so there is nothing I can change to ''.
Ignoring that I followed the rest of the steps in your guide and wound up with this when I click on my new shortcut (please see screenshot)
