I already have these games from CDs a while back. I bought the GoG version hoping they'd updated the games to smooth them out. Plus I'm nostalgic like that, and the price was cheap so there's a lot of appeal in having the game readily-downloadable to any PC anywhere on the planet.

I originally played TR2 and 3 on PC, and the first game on PSX. Since I didn't try the original on PC, I won't comment on it. It seems to run fine, anyway.

The most noticeable problems I used to have on the CD are:

TR2: Windows borders on the FMV scenes (after getting them to actually play!)
TR3: Strange vertical line at the bottom of the home screen roughly 1/3 from the right-hand side.
TR3: In certain places like Thames Wharf/The Sphinx room at the museum, if I looked up or down the textures stretching off into the darkness would randomly flicker and adjust crazily.

Now I've got the GoG version and guess what? New problem appeared:

TR2: Audio seems to loop. That is any triggered audio event, be it music or lara speaking. A good example is at the start of the assault course at her home. She just keeps repeating herself the same thing over and over until I trigger a new audio clip.

Honestly it might just be my computer alone having this problem. I tried all the usual fixes including compatibility and user-made patches no to avail. What's the point in paying for a game updated to modern systems if you're going to end up trying to get it working anyway?
I'm having the exact same problem with the audio looping TR2.

There's an overly complicated fix in another thread on this forum that requires burning CDs of the games files just to run a specific fan-patch.

The question is, why wasn't this supposedly well-known fan-patch implemented in the first place?

How did you manage to get the fmv cutscenes to play? In my laptop, the cutscenes are buggy, only sound works - the image is frozen... Not even with Escape Play I can watch the movies!!!
Please, let me know what you did.
I didn't do anything to make the FMVs work. They just did. I'm still trying to fix the fact that the FMV are full of lines (horizontal, chunky black lines) and the window frame/taskbar are still showing during them.

You can learn how to fix the repeating sound effects by going to:

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/tomb_raider_series/fix_for_tr_2_and_3_sound_and_cutscene_problem

(Thanks to Dudalb for pointing that one out. And the guys over at tombraiderchronicles.com who actually came up with the patch)

Yes, you'll need the original CDs it would appear. The patcher uses them to get some of the files off of them. If you do not have any original copies of the game, I might be able to send you the necessary files (via google or something) to make it work.

If GoG are going to re-release these classics the very least they could have done is incorporated the fixes. They are community developed patches and therefore they would love to collaborate with GoG to improve the re-release.

Another thing that would be nice is proper fullscreen, widescreen support. As it stands, running at 1920x1080 stretches everything and the only work around is to run in windowed mode maximised with the task bar and edges hidden.

With further regards to the FMVs not working, have you tried the FMV fix at http://www.tombraiderhub.com/download/tr_fmv_fix.zip ? Make sure to scan it first.

*Edit* seems I can't win full stop. I'm a perfectionist so I become fussy over very silly things. Such as if you load the game in Temple Ruins on TR3, the 'indoor' ambience is replaced with jungle exterior ambience. Bit strange hearing the entire jungle inside a temple. Didn't happen on PSX.

Agreed, I also find these more buggy than using my old cds. I bought the games for PC when they came out, and as far as I can remember the borders and thick black lines (on my Pentium II, with win 950) during FMVs where always there.

Apologies, I don't mean the horizontal lines -- the PC version has always had that. I meant my taskbar and the actual window the game runs in. Even running in fullscreen did nothing to fix this. Soon as an FMV played, the window edges appeared. Mind you I'm replying to a thread I started aggeeeeeees ago so they may have fixed it by now, not sure until I try the game.

That's a huge necro! But it doesn't really matter, this forum isn't exactly busy...
