Just getting into this game, and despite its age, I'm enjoying it so far.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I'm stumped on the first "riddle/puzzle". I've gone up a level or two of the mountain near the start, and a statue is asking me to "name for me that which once held authority".

I've tried a few random answers based on what I've read in the manual, but so far haven't been successful.

Can anyone please help with this?
Yeah, it's a little more obscure than you'd expect for the first puzzle of the game.

There's a clue in the gorge to both statues' riddles. Make note of any cryptic scrawlings you may find in the nearby caves.

EDIT:

Oh, and I forgot: there are also clues in Theros' note.

If you've found writing in a cave but didn't pay much attention, go to your Journal. It's in the Automap screen. At least one of your party members took note!
