I'm looking for a guide to help me understand the many terms used in the GWENT cards in Thronebreaker. I've carefully read the details by right-clicking each card. Many of the descriptions make sense, but sometimes the descriptions don't make sense because they use terms which aren't familiar to me.

I'm sure most everyone else understands these GWENT buzzwords, and I'm just a little slow. So I'll really appreciate people being patient with me... :-)

For example what do these terms mean and what are their implications when it comes to using them in battles:
- Machine ??
- Blitz ??
- Field Support ??
- Loyal ??
- Boost ??

I could list many more unfamiliar terms used in Thronebreaker, but hopefully this gives you the idea.

I found this site which provides definitions for many of the terms used in GWENT

https://witcher.fandom.com/wiki/Thronebreaker_cards_terminology

This site has been very helpful, but it often uses GWENT terminology in the definitions. It's somewhat like trying to learn a foreign language by reading a foreign-language dictionary. If a person doesn't understand the core terminology, then many of the descriptions just don't make sense.

A good example is "Resilience" which is defined on this web page as "Status that allows a card to remain on the board at round end, then restores it to base power if boosted."

I understand this to mean that if a card has Resilience and it survives the current round, then it stays on the board for the next round. I assume the card stays on the same row. But if the card is not "boosted", then it plays out the next round with only what it had left over from the previous round.

My first question was: What is "base power"? There's no definition for "base power" on this page. Is "base power" Strength? Armor? Something else?

My next question was: How do I "boost" a card?

You get the idea... ;-)

I've also found this link which describes all the cards in Thronebreaker

https://witcher.fandom.com/wiki/Thronebreaker_cards

Again this is a VERY helpful website. But like the on-line help in Thronebreaker, this web page assumes a basic understanding of the terminology from GWENT.

So I tried YouTube.

I found a lot of YouTube videos which had some very useful information, but the problem for me was that the presenters often assumed the viewer had a clear understanding of the basic terminology in GWENT. So often I couldn't totally follow what they were saying. It was like someone was speaking to me partly in English and partly in a foreign language.

I'm really quite surprised that CD Projekt RED didn't provide a beginners guide to help players totally new to GWENT. The GOG version of Thronebreaker does not include a manual or game guide of any kind.

Finally I tried web searches for "GWENT for Dummies", and "Beginners Guide to GWENT", and similar searches. Got lots of results, but again they all generally assumed a basic understanding of GWENT terminology.

In closing this post, I guess the most helpful thing people could do is imagine trying to explain GWENT to a 5 year old who's never even heard of GWENT, and then think of me as that 5 year old.

In other words, if you have to use a word, term or concept that's not part of everyday English (i.e. a GWENT buzzword), then assume I don't know what it means and explain it to me (or include a link to a web page that does explain it). :-)

Any help, tips, explanations or useful links will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Craig

Craig, I hope you don't see you finally got a reply and then find the following underwhelming...

Your questions are exactly my questions. I am looking for guides/explanations and not finding anything that is detailed enough. I share your frustrations when you find something and the information provided assumes certain knowledge - which happens to be the exact knowledge you seek in the first place.

So, I am adding my name to Craig's request, if anyone can provide links to the items Craig has requested, i would also be appreciative.

Thanks.

Thanks for the vote, FuzzBudgetVanPelt!! Hopefully someone will respond. :-D

So far the best source for learning Thronebreaker I've been able to find is Game Pressure's Game Guide (https://guides.gamepressure.com/thronebreaker-the-witcher-tales/). Still somewhat buzzword-heavy, but still very helpful.
