I installed the game on my Mac on launch day and it went flawlessly. I've been playing since then without problems. I just downloaded and tried to install the updated version from GoG to take advantage of the fixes, but it won't install.

I get a generic error: "The installation failed. The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.

Help!

Can you try uninstalling and reinstalling the game? There's a newer Mac version available via Galaxy, version 1.0.866. Can you let me know if you still get this error?

Hi, I installed GoG Galaxy, it imported all my GoG games, but it still fails to update some of them, including Thimbleweed Park. I made a post about it in a separate thread.

Hey dz,

Your best bet would be to submit a bug report with your Galaxy logs here: http://mantis.gog.com :)

I'll do so, thanks. How do I get the GoG logs?

On MacOSX: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

Just make a copy of all the logs in there and zip them up and attach them to your bug report :)

Thank you, just did.

Notice that this is on Mac OS X 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion). The report form only offers Mac Os X 10.9 and up in the operating systems list.

You may want to edit that "10.5.8 (Mountain Lion)" in your report though :P

Oh sheez! How silly of me. I can't seem to edit the report, so I added a note. Wow, and I plastered it in almost every field. DOH!

Thanks for the heads up.
It's been over a week and I haven't heard from either the bug-report nor the support ticket I submitted. Not even an acknowledgement of receipt or assignment.

I did receive an immediate response from the game developer support team. It was very polite and prompt, but it was to tell me that technical support about the game installation was handled by GoG. DOH!

- Bug Report: Ticket #4925
- Support Request: Ticket #40664

GOG Support is very very very slow recently.
I have a issue opened 18 days ago and have not get any respond yet. (#37813)
To those of you, like me, who were never able to install the patch either via direct download or via GoG Galaxy, I managed to work around the issue.

First of all, the minimum requirements for the installer in the GoG.com catalogue page have been updated to say it requires Mac OS X 10.9 and higher, when it used to be 10.8 or higher on initial release. This is not true for the game, but apparently only for the GoG installer.

Terrible Toybox specify that the game requires Mac OS X 10.7 or higher, and in fact this is the minimum stated in the Steam site. It appears GoG has artificially inflated the minimum requirements of the game for their installer unnecessarily.

All that said, the trick is to "unpack" the package and extract the game bundle from it manually. I followed instructions posted somewhere else, but here they are for your convenience:

1. Download the installation package from your library.
2. Figure out how to unpack the package. There is a command-line option to do so, which I don't know, or you could download Pacifist like I did, which does it for you.
3. Once unpacked, browse the contents of the Resources looking for a folder called simply "payload." If you are using Pacifist, this will be in the "Resources" tab:

- thimbleweed_park_en_1_0_866_11225.pkg
|--- Resources
|------- package.pkg
|----------- Scripts
+--------------- payload

4. Extract the "payload" folder. If you are using Pacifist, just select it and click "Extract To..." from the tool bar.
5. Once extracted, find the "payload" folder in your computer and rename it to "Thimbleweed Park.app" -- notice that the extension of ".app" is important. This is the "magic" that causes your computer to treat the folder as an application.
6. Copy the renamed bundle to your Applications folder or wherever you want it.

Ta-daa! You're done! The game can now run as normal.

The fact that the game runs perfectly fine by extracting it manually from the installation package, but the installation package refuses to install it, suggests that there is a problem in the installation package itself.

Good luck and godspeed. :)

Hi,

As for your ticket, I've been informed that your initial ticket was on April 5th and our Support team sent you a response on the same day a few hours later. Now, I am not sure what's going on but could I ask you to make sure our response didn't land in a spam filter or something?

https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/requests/37813

There are only my inputs. And the issue still does not assigned to anyone yet.
It is 19 days passed.

If you call a machine-auto-replied-email is your Official Response™, well, I did get that mail.

UPDATE:
For those who are curious:
After 19 days, GOG Support finally give me a first Real™ reply, and the issue #37813 is now solved.

For completeness.
