GoatBoy: Thanks for the suggestion, however, I'm sure that will be useful to many.
LOL.
I found another bad behavior: while, with this patch, the executable was renamed "thief.exe", in the registry it keeps the value "thief_ND.exe" This results in an error when I try to launch the game from the "Games" folder in Windows 7.

Thanks for the updates. I originally bought the Thief series on GOG to have an easy install on Win7, but it turned not to be that optimized and some things didn't work well.
With the updated version I just made a fresh install, ported the saves and key binds and everything works. No fiddling around with files anymore.

The 1.19 patch release was a godsend.

a new batch of dml fixes has been submitted to the GOG staff. the patch resolves some small and minor issues, like item placement, z-fighting, and problems with inventory.

as always, those using the latest TFix already have these fixes installed (and more).

I don't understand what this "Universal update" is for exactly o_O?

So I bought Thief Gold and installed it via the installer. What does the universal update change? :o

just like any other patch for any other game out there, it updates a bunch of files, and fixes a bunch of issues. so yes, you should install it (especially if you don't plan to apply TFix).

I just wondered why this is stated seperately and not included in the stadard patch / installer.
not sure what do you mean - the GOG installer will install the game, and the patch will apply a bunch of more fixes for issues that were found after the initial release.

TFix is a community fixup package aimed at completely overhauling the game's resources, maps, textures, objects etc.

i think what he meant was why the patch is not included in the game installer.
the 1.22 NewDark update for the GOG build of TG is live. this will be submitted to the GOG team at the end of the week (planning to go through everything a couple of times to make sure everything works as it should before submitting), and become the next official update (if things go well). to install, extract the archive to your fully patched TG GOG install, and overwrite old files. saves will work fine, but a mission restart will be required to load the new fixes for the current mission. this update is for users running an unmodded GOG build ONLY. do NOT install if you have patched up with TFix.

fix/change log;
-added the AI sensitivity fix (exclusive to TFix until now)
-fire elementals now shoot only one projectile as they should, instead of a volley of fiery death that would obliterate the player (and his framerate)
-raft in Strange Bedfellows should not sink underwater anymore
-fix for an ugly orig bug that would glitch out sleeping AIs if woken up in slightly unexpected ways
-the old sword will not magically appear at the spot where you have dealt damage for the last time after picking up Constantine's sword anymore
-Cragscleft pseudo cameras and fire elemental pathfinding work properly now (fixed by NewDark 1.22)
-a couple of fixes to object positions and other small improvements (read the dml comments if you really have nothing better to do)

and one more time, do NOT apply this if you have patched up with TFix (1.20 or newer), you already have everything.

// adding the T2 update as well. it's just the updated files, plus I have enabled multisampling by default - the fact that some people are still running three generations old intel integrated hardware is not a reason good enough to rob the rest of improved visual fidelity.

ThiefGold update 1.22
Thief2 update 1.22

//edit june10 2015 - the Galaxy builds of TG/T2 are now using NewDark 1.22

Is TafferPatcher enough?
TafferPatcher 212_beta still installs 1.21, so no, it is not enough if you want the latest version of NewDark - you will have to update manually, getting the raw T2 NewDark package and copying over the exe file from new_dark.zip and all the files from contrib.zip into your TafferPatched T2 install. that should give you 1.22 without losing the TafferPatcher perks.

do not bring the GOG update I've made available in my previous post into this, it's not meant to update a TafferPatched install and will mess things up.

So I'm doing a new installation since I upgraded my computer and when I try to install TFix 1.20a on a brand new Thief installation by GOG with the patch it says "this is not a valid thief installation." I chose a customized location but I moved the folder to the one suggested (C:\Games\Thief) but that didn't work.

What should I do to "validate" it?

make sure the game executable is named thief.exe, that's all the patcher needs to start up.
Damnit, I actually thought that could be it but I forgot to try it. It worked at least.
