Hilfsaeffchen: I picked DDfix 1.5.11 and it still asks for the frickin CD. Strange...

TheJoe: Ok well I have another trick up my sleeve here.

here was my thief2.exe. It may or may not stop it asking for a CD, I'm not sure. I know it doesn't ask me.

It might be illegal for me to post this, but you own the game and there's nothing one can do with thief2.exe on its own, right? So I'll leave this link intact unless a blue man comes along and tells me it's not OK.

Just replace your thief2.exe and hope it works.
Thanks, but I just managed to get it running. I started the Darkinst.cfg configuration utility after another installation and found a NoCD option. :)

Ahh even better! Glad you got it working! It's definitely worth the trouble!

You two might want to remove all traces of that link now that Hilfsaeffchen has a working version...

It is indeed. I played through it two or three times a couple of years ago. One of the most atmospheric games ever made, with great cutscenes and sound design.

I'm fairly certain there's nothing wrong with it. A copy of THIEF.EXE is included in TGFix in the stickied thread and nobody's complained about that. But I will delete the file since the value of the exe has been diminished.

I know, but better safe then sorry...
Tafferpatcher is so much win

for everybody who has this issue: edit install/darkinst.cfg and try removing the cd_path line completely.
Thanks for the Tafferpatcher, works perfectly with my Mastertronic Thief compilation. Word of warning, make sure to remove the cd path line in the darkinst.cfg or else you will get a no cd error.
I'm using Tafferpatcher to try to improve the graphics on the Thief 2 game.
So far it doesn't seem to have any effect despite installing it. Most of all, I'm trying to get widescreen support with this unofficial patch (Tafferpatcher). I selected 1.5.11 but the widescreen option is grayed out. What can I do?
1.5.11 includes widescreen support. just install it and you should have it.

That the thing. I keep installing 1.5.11 but widescreen support is grayed out. (Incidentally, I checked the settings for Tafferpatcher and it said that widescreen was installed as well as that all the features had the word "no" next to them. I'm getting the impression that Tafferpatcher isn't affecting my game at all.)
try running the game. if everything went well, the game should be set to your (widescreen) desktop resolution.
Ok, I finally got widescreen working. There is one last issue, however. The maps don't look right. The writing is faded out and Garrett's location appears as an ugly yellow rather than the proper blue.
a screenshot would be nice.
