version 2.0 is here, now completely free (not requiring Doom3 anymore). if you are looking for a next-gen thief like experience, you might want to give it a try.

Nice!
Are there any full size campaigns? If so which would you recommend?
the missions can be found here, but I don't think there are any fullblown campains available just yet. as for personal recommendations, I have to admit that I have only tried Tears of St. Lucia - TFix, SCP, and NewDark in general is consuming pretty much all my free time. maybe when SCP beta1 is finally out, I will have some time to remedy this.

if I had to sum it up into one sentence, I would say that Thief4 is going to have a hard time competing with this.

The site is getting so much traffic that the servers are failing, which is a good think in my opinion. With this release, the Dark Mod will most defiantly attract new people to the team, so expect some major updates soon.
While I do think it's impressive that the team managed to create a that out of the IdTech 4 source code, I prefer an actual game with a story, gameplay progression ect. rather than fan missions. I love the Thief games but I have never liked any fan missions (and in any game for that matter) and in my opinion, they take away from the game.

That was one of the few fan missions I completed. Its a complete mission expansion pack. Not official, but really well done. It has full campaign, and cut scenes even.

"take away from the game"???
What a retarded thing to say.
It's not like anyone is forcing you to install user made content. And it's not like fan made missions and campaigns can't have a story.

In fact, apart from Thief2X there are several mini-FM campaigns that are really well done. They are not as long as the original game or even the fan-made campaign that is Thief2X, but still very much worth your time and effort. Some even surpass the original game - by far!

No fan mission I ever tried, even came close to being a decent mission. In my OPINION the mear fact that fan missions exist, takes away from the actual game. A game should be a carefully crafted experience made by professionals and not something that any Tom, Dick or Harry can make with a simple level editor.
half of the people from the T2x team ARE professionals, working for various game studios (Arcane, for example).

also, do not underestimate the (artistic) power of dedicated fans - remember, it was the power of fans that has brought you the Dark Mod, TafferPatcher, TFix, the many System Shock2 mods, and, last but not least, NewDark itself.

Obvious troll... Trolls forum.

The fact that Thief games came with an official mission editor is clearly a feature that meant that the designers intended other players to extend the game with new content. As I understand it even some who made fan missions even hired and went on to help make professional games themselves for other companies. It was a good learning tool.

If you are a gamer and only utilize the game and not all the features that come along with the game, and not making your own continent you only seeing a fraction of what the game has to offer the player.

He probably hated the blissful joy that was Lode Runner and it's level editor too... Or Bard's Tale Construction Set in which the whole point of the game was to make your own levels. Or Wing Commander Academy again whole purpose to make your own levels.

Apparently I pinched a few of your guys nerves, but I will not change my OPINION. Apparently a lot of people can't stand some one ell's opinion. I DON'T LIKE FAN MISSIONS, as simple as that. It doesn't mean the world is going to end. Yes, there is such a thing as a Thief fan who does not like fan missions, who loves the crap out Deadly Shadows and is actually looking forward to the new THIEF game.

It's hard to top the best levels in the Thief games, but in games like the Age of Wonders and Heroes of Might&Magic series many of the user made maps are far superior to any of the official maps.
I've played lots of games and lots of user made content over the years, and trust me: the user made content can be just as good as any professionaly done content.

Dave if you don't care about this kind of stuff why are you in this thread?

No one is forcing you to play fan levels, mods or patches, and your bitchin isn't going to stop people from making them.
