by uninstalling them, of course. they should be in the add/remove programs panel.
1.06 is out: adjusted some textures, added correct obj model for the sword. added T1 support.
Can someone breakdown how to properly install DDFIX for a dummy please?
I messed it up.. so I just uninstalled everything so I could start over.

Grab the prepatched executable from the fist post here http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121449 Might be unnecessary if GOG version already uses it.
Grab DDFix 1.15.12 from this post http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121449&p=2090770&viewfull=1#post2090770
Unpack this stuff into the game's folder overwriting when necessary.
Screen resolution is set in cam.cfg, extra ddfix options are set in ddfix.ini

The ones in the first link are what I already tried.
Which one do I use. the one at ther top that says DDFix, or the one in the other paragraph that says "Thief Gold - Dromed 1"

Cause the first time I tried both and nothing happened.. at the end all I did was make a prompt appear whenever I tried to run Thief.. so that's when I uninstalled everything.

Is the proper way to do it to download the fix into a seperate folder.. then unzip the entire folders contents into the folder Thief is saved in?

Both (well, you don't need the dromed exe - that's for the editor).
Ddfix file provides a few dll files that fix the graphics issues, plus a readme and a settings file. However the normal Thief exe doesn't know about ddfix, so you also need to pick up the edited exe for your specific game.

What prompt did you get?

Hm. Yeah.. nothing worked when I did it the first time. I looked at the ReadMe, I couldn't follow it, it reads like a jumble of nothing to me.

Did I do it properly? I downloade each fix, to a folder, extracted them with 7zip, and put them into the Thief Gold folder, and it asked to rewrite a few files so I said yes.

I don't recall the prompt, it was a certificate, or permission error or something
now you sound like a guy that could use an easy to install, all-in-one fix package. did I mention there is one at the beginning of this topic?

voodoo47: so if you are having problems running the GOG release, or just want to have better graphics/widescreen support, go ahead and try it out (works for the regular and the GOG version, but do note that you are using it on your own risk).
Rather off putting for me, seeing as how I am having troubles with the items just by themselves.

oo-kay, let's make it really simple.

-download this.

-do this:
1) extract the contents of the archive to your T1/TG folder, overwrite old files (if you want the old look without all the hires mods, do not copy over "mods" and "res" folders).
2) run movecrf.bat (moves all original thief crfs to the RES folder. all orginal crfs MUST be in the RES folder for things to work properly). GOG edition should already have the crfs at the proper place (but double check to be sure).
3) edit cam.cfg and modify game_screen_size line to reflect the resolution you want (the default is set to 1024 768). do NOT do this if you are running hdradeon card under winxp-see readme_hdxp.txt in the hdradeon_winxp folder.

run thief1.exe if you have Thief1, and thiefg.exe if you have Thief Gold
oh btw, 1.07 is out.

I extracted all files except "mods" and "res" to my Thief gold folder.

I can't find "move.crf.bat".
But as far as I know the folder is full of crf files. 12 different ones in there.

How do I edit cam.cfg? I click on it and it wants me to open it with something.

Edit - I took a guess and tried opening it with Notepad. I typed in my resolution but I can't save it, when I try it says access denied

-I have no idea how did you manage "not to find movecrf.bat". it's in the archive, you should have extracted it to your thief folder. anyway, you can move all the *.crf files manually to the RES folder (gog edition should have the folder already, if not create it - in your thief folder).
-yes, you can edit cam.cfg with notepad. make sure the file is not read only, and make sure thief is not installed in "program files" or "windows" or some similar protected folder. "C:\games\thief " is the best place. I can make the cfg edit for you - just tell me your resolution and I'll attach the modified cfg to my next post.

it looks like TGfix needs a bulletproof installer more than anything - seems like three steps of manual install is way too many.

Couldn't find it. I've looked through everything, did a search of the folder. I moved everything except the two folders you said not too.

Then I guess that's it, the default place it wanted to install was program files so I let it.

That seems like a shot at me.
ok, let's try it one more time.

-uninstall the game, and install it again, this time to C:\games\thief
-extract the whole tgfix archive to the thief folder, overwrite old files
-make sure all *.crf files are moved to the RES folder (either by using movecrf.bat, which IS in the archive, no mater how you want to look at it, or move them manually)
-edit cam.cfg with notepad and modify game_screen_size line to reflect the resolution you want
-run thief1.exe if you have Thief1, and thiefg.exe if you have Thief Gold

if you are unable to follow these instructions, I would suggest you get a more skilled family member or a friend to help you out.
