junk files.
I am always apprehensive about unofficial patches, and don't like being forced into using them. I think the option should be made to install the original game without any addendums.
Are you aware that most of GOG games - in order to be compatible with modern systems - contain files that were not present in original releases, thus making them "fan-patches"?

Chedo: I am always apprehensive about unofficial patches, and don't like being forced into using them. I think the option should be made to install the original game without any addendums.
Without addendums Thief won't run at all on any modern multi-core PC. The original gog and steam releases used ddfix, which was a fan made hack. NewDark is a new engine version.
I have asked GOG to restore the legacy executables, as some users might prefer running that (also, TFix uses them to find the install), so with a bit of luck, the next GOG build will offer support for both the old engine and the new one (entirely possible, in fact, I have set up one of my installs this way).

in the meantime, you can restore the original (non-ddfix) exe and cfg from the "backup" folder.
Can I get some clarity: I saw this was updated, so I went and updated and installed...but it appears that the old version of the game is still on my PC in a different location. So I guess this update doesn't write on top of the old version, I have to manually delete the old version?

The new installers come with 2.0 installer version where they changed installation to a different location than program files/x86 to avoid those pesky security features in Windows Vista/7/8. Your old version is probably there and the new is likely in C:\Games\GOG\ or something similar, I don't know, I use custom location for all my games.

Yes, the new version is in the GOG Games folder, and the old version is in the Program Filesx86 folder. But...do I need the old version in the Program Filesx86 folder to run the game, or can I delete it and just keep the files in the GOG Games folder?
you can delete the old install.
Forgive the n00b question, as I've tried to follow this thread to the best of my ability. From what I'm reading on this, if I bought TG and T2 from GoG yesterday (during the big sale), they should install with all the patches already in place, correct? Or do I need to seek out the NewDark patch?

Asking because TG installs fine, but when I run it, I get audio but no screenage. It also looks like the TG downloadable actually has T2 in it, but I can't tell, cause I can't see the menu. Went through all of the GoG troubleshooting steps in the support article, and no dice. Win 7 dual-core system, dual-monitor.
yes, both games should play out of the box. so, are you saying that you are not able to see the main menu? weird. post your thief_nd.log.

also, rename thief_nd.exe to thief.exe, and try patching up with TFix.

Tried the rename, no joy.

Installed TFix, now the menu won't even run, and I get "your video hardware is not supported or no supported video mode was found." Not better. :-)

thief_nd.log follows. Apologies for putting it in the body of the post, but this forum seems to only want image attachments. Thanks!

check your cam.cfg, look for game_screen_size, make sure it says
game_screen_size 1920 1080
Thanks GOG! I asked for this on the SS2 board awhile back, and am very happy you have upgraded the installers to Newdark.
Hey there .o/

Hmm I just noticed that the Thief_ND.exe provided by GOG for Thief Gold is not identical to NewDark 1.21's exe file — the one provided by GOG is 128,000 bytes bigger.
So I'm curious to know what the differences are.
