I'm making this post (which will hopefully be stickied) for anyone who owns a Creative sound card that wants to have EAX enabled, the sound positioning for this EAX corrected, and for sound in movies to be enabled in Thief Gold. The link below is for a dsound.zip file which contains a dsound.dll and a dsound.ini file that you need to extract to the Thief Gold directory.

https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B77dzGebiRz4OWMwNWQ2ZWQtM2RmMS00ODk2LWI2YTctMmM3OTQxMWFiMWRj

You will also need to have Creative ALchemy (assuming you run Windows Vista or 7).

1. Run the program and click "Add" in the middle of the window.
2. Type in "Thief Gold" for the Game Title box.
2. Click the "Use Game Path" radio button and browse to your Thief Gold directory.
3. Copy the folder address into the "Use Game Path" box.
4. Leave all other settings at their defaults.
5. Click OK.
6. Click on Thief Gold in the Installed Games list on the left.
7. Click the ">>" button in the middle of the window. Thief Gold should now be in the right hand side, in the "ALchemy-enabled Games" column.
8. Close the ALchemy window.

With both the dsound replacement files and the ALchemy fix, you should now have perfectly working sound in game and in cutscenes.

If anyone can post these files into an alternative location, that would be grand.

Cheers!

There may still be some people out there who won't have any audio for the video files, except for the "Mission Accomplished" video. There is a post here:

Follow the link in that post to a little program that will convert your video files from 8bit to 16bit when you tell it where you directory is. That should fix your problem... it did for me.

(I think my positional audio is working with Alchemy despite not being able to turn on hardware acceleration from the options menu in game)

Thank you for this!
I am trying to download Creative ALchemy for the plain old SB X-FI. But when I get to the Creative Worldwide page and select X-Fi, it says that the X-Fi is considered at "End of Service Life" and I cannot find anywhere to download ALchemy. Can anyone help me with this?

No. I clicked on your link, but it shows nowhere where I can download ALchemy.

You mean it doesn't ask you to accept the license agreement to immediately download ALMY_PCVTAPP_LB_1_41_02.exe ?
