OK, folks. I'm a totally new to PC/Mac gaming, GOG, Boxer - all of it. I'm a lifelong console gamer. Need some help.

Trying to get Theme Park to run at the correct speed. I read on the forums here that a program like Boxer could adjust the CPU cycles to correct this. Every tutorial I read about Boxer makes it seems like it's dead simple - just drag and drop the files. But my files won't drop in. I downloaded the Win version and tried that, too. So it's the the Windows version not the DOS version? Any way to get the DOS version from GOG? Do I need a Windows emulator to correct this? Or is there a way to launch the hi-res mode on Mac to help slow it down a little more?

I guess I just assumed a game I paid money for on a legit service would, like, fucking work correctly or something....

I'm afraid I cannot give you the exact answer to your question, but I can perhaps give you some clues which may help you.

1) The GOG version is the DOS version, it runs on Boxer (which is a DOS-emulator). Boxer is included with the game from GOG, so you do not need to download anything else.

2) If you right-click on the Theme Park app and select "Show package contents" you can find a bunch of files. Under, Contents > Resources, you will find "Theme park.boxer" if you right-click "show package contents" of that app you will find the DOS files. You can click on "Theme park.boxer" to get a command line (as you can under the Theme Park app > Contents > MacOS > Boxer Standalone), but I do not know what this may be useful for.

3) However, beyond that I really don't know how to adjust the speed :(. I would suggest submitting a ticket to GOG support.
I did a bit more snooping around, I found the file with the configuration settings:

Theme Park app > Show Package Contents > Contents > Resources > Theme park.boxer > Show Package Contents > DOSBox Preferences.conf

Open that file with TextEdit and you can see the lines:

[cpu]
core=normal
cycles=fixed 10000
cputype=auto

Which can be changed and saved.
I also found a lot of good general information about Boxer here:

Awesome. Thanks. Had no idea the Mac version was just using Boxer but that makes sense. I'll dig around with these tips and see what I can do. I believe some others in a different thread on the TP forum here have given suggested CPU cycles to bring the game back in line with how it's supposed to run.
