Crossbow does not work on any of the four square panels. Aard works on the first three but using the crossbow has no effect on the fourth one on top of the crumbed wall above the abyss. How do I set the fourth square? Do I need to use a certain kind of bolt?

using aard works on all 4 switches. for the one hanging over the abyss, you need to get up on the esge of the wall and cast from there. you can also use a bomb if that fails.
