Found a bug that I have used a couple of times that allows one to 'cheat' and kill high level characters without any fear of getting attacked.

I've used it when finding bandit camps and such with them much higher level then me. Seems they have a pre-defined area that they will go to. So if you run to a single one and get his attention and have him follow you around a building and to the perimeter of the town/camp, he will eventually hit a point where he will stop. And if you then, outside the area, keep plugging him with the crossbow, you will eventually kill him with no fear of getting hurt. He will not move and will just stand there as you keep plugging those bolts into him.

Takes forever, but since you have unlimited bolts it will work. I cleared a while town of level 10 bandits (I was level 5) doing this. Won't do it again as it looses the immersion. Something they should fix.

I think that's every single witcher game, I've done that TW1 and TW2, even after a year or two worth of patches. If you get them outside of the attack zone, and corner them, you can just chop away with your sword. Doesn't always work out that way, but when it does, well I just chop away.

they should either keep coming after you no matter how far you go, or, once getting attacked, retreat back!
Plus the bow doesn't do much damage overall, especially later in the game, not even worth doing. As long as enemies don't have a death skull over their head, you can kill them much much faster with your sword, so I don't think people are gonna bother doing the bow.

I know what you're saying about the enemies, but it's been like that since witcher 1 and 2. They can barely make changes now without adding other bugs to the game, so imagine them trying to change the entire way enemies attack, it'd be a bug-fest. Though they managed to add a giant cow enemy that follows you pretty far...so...yeah...

Retreat back? Back to where? They are already in the zone they would retreat to.

And keep comming is also dumb as then they might chace you into Novigrad. You might end up with a line of 1000 mobs chasing after you at some point.

It is what it is. You can either exploit it or play by the rules. But don't blame the game because you want to cheat or that you can cheat. Heck if thats the case turn on God mode.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
(sometimes by trying to fix something that does not require it you can break things even more)

Velen - Hanged Man's Tree (player's level 4~6), southwest enemy levels ~14, southeast enemy levels ~14, if you wouldn't be able to break pursuit it would make the exploration annoying and prone to save scumming. It is only players own fault if they exploit game mechanics and break the game to cheese some encounters or all out cheat (it's a singleplayer game after all).

Also the amount of time you are wasting by trying to kill an enemy 6+ levels above you with a crossbow (or even with a low level sword) is not worth it IMO (upgraded Axii, some instakill boosts/abilities, little dodging, much more rewarding and fun, provided enemy is prone to Axii).

Just my two cents.

P.S. Goodmongo has a great example of a problem that could be introduced if the player wouldn't be able to break pursuit!
