If anyone wants to stay clean shaven, enable the command console & type shave.
It stops your beard growing for as long as your playing.

Now that you make me notice... I have two saves made at a distance of a couple of in-game days. In the first save Geralt's face looks quite clean, whilst in the second save (after I completed the quest at the Whispering Hillock) during a dialog, I think I've seen Geralt's beard longer... I have the beard and hairstyle dlc but I haven't styled Geralt's beard yet.
