T_Snake: The Question was what Grafikcard would be able to run Witcher 3 . He also said that he has a budget of 250€.

It wasn't the question after the best card...
avatar
danteszzz: oh i tought he wanted to play best settings(max) and not just run the game well still i wont recomm 960 ever

SDAngel: I was thinking about getting the ASUS Strix GeForce GTX 960. Any opinions?
avatar
danteszzz: can u give a link of the store from which you would buy a gpu ?
I would like to, but my current forum rank prevents me from linking :(
If you can get one at a good price i'd highly recommend a 4gb GTX 770, it's what i have and thus far it's not failed to run anything. It's just a question of if you can find one for your price range.
I bought a Gigabyte Grafikcard 960 G1 4GB at Mindfactory in Germany,
As far as I know the also send to the Netherlands.

And it nearly matches the budget.

It also has a Windforce Cooling 3 fans,
on idle the don't even start to cool down.

i second that even a used 770 with 2GB of GDDR5 is far better than a 960 and would easly destroy it in any game. i dont know how much it cost in netherlands but here in serbia u can buy a brand new 770 2GB for 310 euros .

You should also think about the energiecosts:
960 max 120W
770 max 230W

It is also money

yes 770 cant compare to 960 in power con savings but still i cant tell anyone to buy a 128bit card in 2015 and keep a str8 face just cant. if it was a 960Ti i would recomm right away but no they didnt make a 960Ti for some reason

danteszzz: im affraid he is looking to buy in the worst period for gpu sales ever, dunno maybe w8 too see if a 380x is any better than a 280x but since its rebrand it will proly be the same. such a bad time to shop for cards now if u cant buy a 970 . and im afraid 280x wont get anywhere near ultra or maybe even high @60 fps for this game

mmarci: True, 970 is the absolute best buy at the moment, too bad it is still 300 quid. It will be some time until we see something noteworthy from AMD anyway, funny how things have changed since the 79xx series.
I'm seeing prices from £250 up. (Admittedly not for the MSI that I bought, but for some...)

Known "good" implementations from £270. It is pricey, but good bang for the buck...

If you can wait though, you might be better served with a DX12 hardware device... the "full benefits" of DX12 aren't going to be available on DX11 era cards. No idea how much impact that will have, how long you'd have to wait or what the price premium will be... but it should also serve to force down prices on out-going DX11 devices....

You should search an actual benchmark test...
After that take a look at the power loss.

Then ther will be only one logic decision ...

dude if i didnt look for any gpu tests on the internet i dont know who has, i am a hardware buff and am building my own pc's .i think i know a bit or two about the gpus in this case, and sry but u will never make the 960 a logical choice over 770 just because it drains less power. evertyhing else it loses to the 770. im sry u dont agree but facts are there are only a few games in which 960 gets more fps(slightly more ),most otheres its destroyed by the 770 because 960 is basicly 760 with few more % of gpu power. its nothing personal its just the facts. if u like i can spam all the benchmark data here or u can look them up yourself and belive in the truth. just look at this video to see my point its basicly the same gaming wise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaVItZDQAV0
ofc gtx 960 is a new card and u would have to find a used gtx 770 but still a used 770 is better

if we apply the same logic to pascal then there is no point in buying maxwell now coz pascal is gona be 2.5 times stronger with HBM and nvlink so buying anyhting less than that is a waste of money

Sure. I chose to buy recently because a GT430 was too small and weak for some titles. The GTX970 has the best price performance ratio right now, and wasn't expensive enough that I had to settle for less. It wasn't cheap enough that I could go further up the scale either...

I am not now planning to upgrade again for 4 years or so (exception possibly a new CPU, as mine is one of the weakest in LGA1155 ~ I'll see how well it copes with serving the GPU and then decide. Benchmarks around 12% slower than the best chip my board supports, and around 20% less than the same GPU with a more modern motherboard and 'best' processor (which isn't immediately an option because it would use new DDR modules as well.... the combination of which gets pricey.)

im glad we can agree :D whatever seems to be the right word here . p.s. i havent been alive for 30 years yet but im sure ill get to have a 30 year carrer with pc's if all goes well in life
I would go for GTX 970 because of performance, performance/cost ratio and power consumption. If it's too expensive, then wait until a card between GTX 960 and 970 arrives or wait until you can afford the GTX 970.
