MollieLane: Is there a way to see if you have installed your save from the previous game? I got the list of saves and chose the final one but when Geralt woke up with Triss and not Shani I was, what? Was finding that amber and silver ring all for nothing? Is Triss the default?
Yes, Triss is the default.
If you imported a save were you chose Shani, you will find a letter or note from her (or maybe just a codex entry) saying why she can't be with you.
But you won't see her again until an expansion in Witcher 3.
In witcher 2, Triss is still Foltest's magical advisor, and you have become his bodyguard since the assassination attempt, so circumstance has put you back together. (If you can't be with the one you love, love the one your with.)
