When I try to register "connection to server could not be established". When I run 'patcher.exe' I get "game version is invalid or incomplete". Any help please?

Have you an anti-virus? GData found virus in some file after patch download. Disable it.

Launch setup_the_witcher_2.exe
ok i searched the witcher in windows and found the "witcher 2 setup" so it is installing right now!

i hope it will work :)
Still no luck, turned all AV and whatnot off and still nothing. Keep getting the error "Internal error at C:\Users\Andrew\AppData\Local\Temp\pat8F73.tmp" whenever I try and run the patcher. The actual file name seems to change every time though. I verified the files, have turned off stupid UAC and installed, but still no luck. Can't launch game, can't register, can't use patcher. I assume if I can get the patcher to work correctly the other things will work as well...but I don't know how to do that.

I suggest restarting the computer, then running Disc Cleanup (or CCleaner, or similar), and then trying again.
Does anyone have a solution to this. I am expereincing the same thing. Please someone help.

You aren't alone. I'm going through the same issue. One I thing I did notice on the community page at www.thewitcher.com is that they had to take down their registration servers today and they are slowly bringing them back online (the register and login links are greyed out right now too at the top of their home page).

I suspect I'll be needing to drop a line to them via e-mail to get this sussed out. In the meantime I'm removing/reinstalling all of the MS C++ redistributable packages for 2005, 2008 and 2010, to see if that helps, as well as downloading any direct X patches I may have missed. I'll report back here with anything I can figure out.
You don't have to reinstall. For whatever reason, kapersky was hidden from me so I had to seemingly manually launch it and it greeted me with a "Do you want to allow or block the patch?" I allowed it and it seems ok now.
redownloaded and reinstalled twice then shut down UAC and every damn thing that is on startup all antimalware and firewall software and and tried running patcher as admin "installed game version is invalid or incomplete" and then nothing

and launching through launcher gives the 'use launcher to run error'
please tell me what to do... is there a brute crack that forces the game open without patching or anything just tell me where to search for one
I am having the same problem since Tuesday. I have downloaded this game 4 times now on wired and wireless connection. I get the same error on patcher "installed game version is invalid or incomplete" Yes I install with UAC off, firewall off, antivirus disabled.

I'll never buy another game from gog. I have bought 50 or so games from steam and never had a problem.

Finally resolved my issues with the game. I think it mostly had to do with the installation when AV software was enabled (Kapersky Pure in my case).

Here was my fix (mileage may vary):
- Uninstalled the game
- uninstalled the MS C++ redistributable files from 2005, 2008, and 2010
- Restarted windows
- downloaded and installed the DirectX (June 2010 tech update) to ensure all files were correct on my system
- downloaded and installed the MS C++ redistributable packages (on the tech support page at www.witcher.com) then ran windows update to patch these files
- made sure all Sound and Video drivers were fully up to date
- disabled Kapersky AV + Firewall software
- ran CCleaner to remove all temp files and to clean up the registry to make sure any references to the game were erased.
- verified that the game files were intact with the integrity check in the installer.
- installed the game to the C:\ drive versus my D:\ drive where I usually put games (I don't think this really mattered but figured it couldn't hurt.)
- let the game patch itself at the end of the installation process and added the witcher launcher, witcher2.exe and the patcher.exe application to my trusted apps in Kapersky
- re-enabled Kapersky, rebooted windows and voila! Success.

I did have a sound issue with my C-Media Oxygen 8788 card, but after reducing channels from 8 to six and disabling the 7.1 virtual speaker shifter the game runs great with no more tears.

Hopefully this helps somebody else.

System spec:
Win 7 64 bit
Q9550 quad core intel
4 GB RAM
ATI 4890 video card
Bgears C-Media Oxygen sound card
Okay here's what worked for me:
After downloading this game 2x I was finally able to get it to install properly.

I finally figured out that when I installed the Google Toolbar it had, with my okay, installed a antimalware/antivirus program by the name of Immunet(bad) alongside my Antivir(good).
Immunet was silently quarantining the files that I needed for the game to work. I believe it was 3 files. Sorry I don't have the name of the exes it was stealing except for witcher2.exe.
Anyway, I tried to restore the files but was only successful with one of them. I uninstalled the devil program and the game allowed me to patch after a reboot...of course I didn't want to take a chance and get 1/2 way through the game and get some error caused by a missing file...so I reinstalled it one last time and the patch launched itself. Yea!! is an understatement.
Sorry so wordy but I've been scouring the net for a solution and so have you! Didn't even play the game yet cause I had to let you guys know it may work for you. If you have Immunet uninstall it, reboot and reinstall the game, should be no need to download it more than once.
Check any of the antivirus program's quarantine folder and you may be surprised. good luck.
I had a similar problem with launching the game and a popup kept telling me to activate it using the launcher. I was also unable to register my game because it couldn't connect to the internet (my connection was fine).

I was able to finally get it all to work by running the patcher.exe from within TW2 directory in the program files. Once the patcher completed, I was able to register and launch the game problem free.

Good luck!
