APPLIES TO: Win7 x64 - random crashes to desktop without any error message when opening doors, while buying/selling things (while opening the shop or just after closing it) or running (!) from a to b in towns. Happened to me all the time, everywhere. Never had the possibility to play more than app. 20 minutes without crash - until now.

MY SYSTEM: Win7/64bit / i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs) / 8192MB RAM / AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series with 4095 MB memory / Sound: Creative SB X-Fi

THE WITCHER II: gog/enhanced edition, patched up to 3.3 - playing it in GERMAN

And I would like to change the headline here. Does´nt seem to be any solution for the crashes. Nowhere. And I searched the net for weeks.

The only option (for me!) is to free as much memory as you can from the system and, well, "don´t be hasty" while playing. Sometimes this helps, sometimes not.

I have the same problem since being in Flotsam. I hate it. I have enough memory 8GB.
I have not played the Witcher 2 yet but i read about crashes with the german Version of the Game because of the Umlauts (äüöß). On witcher2.nexusmods.com is a Fix for that available, maybe it helps. Just search for "German Crash Fix".
Try turning down the "texture memory size" setting. This helped significantly. It started doing this in Flotsam. It still crashes on occasion but much less after bring this setting down one notch.

Thanks, that was the reason. I continued in english and didn't have a single crash for at least 5 hours, compared to 10 minutes before. It's hard to believe that after more than two years after release and patch level 3.4 and many such complaints CDP isn't able to solve the problem and neither fixes the german version nor tells me to use the english one. They left me experimenting with graphics settings for quite some time before I started googling.

Well I will continue in english, the english voices are better than the german ones. And I'm glad it worked because it's really good so far.

Thanks for the hint on the crash fix. The crashes are really game-breaking. I will NOT download the english version (23 GB) instead of the german version because the synchronization and german voice actors are really good.
Unbelievable that CD Projekt hasn't fixed it !

As you GOG, are a polish company, couldn't you forward this "wish" to CD Projekt ? As I see there are many german users here on GOG and many downloaded TW2 and want to play the german version without crashes.
I'm disappointed that no one has answered yet. I'm using the crash fix from nexus now for quite a while and it works great UNTIL I speak to zoltan in the main quest to ask him about Iorweth. Then AGAIN the game crashes constantly.
I read it's possible to change the displayed language from german to english and that this could solve the problem but I didn't find a way to do this ?

Any suggestions ?

When you start the game, you will se a grey window displayed on the desktop. In this window you can find the language menu. There you will find DE twice, change it to EN, then you will have the game in english.

By the way: I have the same problem, the game crashes regularly. I'm playing it in german.

Hey, thanks for your answer. I already found the solution. I'm using a shortcut for TW2 and not the launcher so the menu wasn't visible to me. The permanent crash problem is now solved. The game stilll crashes sometimes but by far not so often. Another post reads, you should "clean" the savegame-folder and maybe reduce texture size to "medium".
That really seems to have a significant effect and reduced loading times.

I have this exact same issue on two systems and one of it is a "super high-end system" (Win7 x64, 6-Core CPU, 32 GB Ram, Titan, SSD...), so it is definetly no memory issue. However, I can't confirm that this only happens when I open doors, run from A to B or do anything else. Actually this also happens if I do nothing at all. Yesterday I tested this, I started a game and didn't move the character. After some time (about 25 minutes) the game ended and I was back on the desktop, without any error message.

In my case this happens with both English or German language installed. The German Crash Fix, which was mentioned a few posts above, didn't help me.

I really hope this gets fixed at some point!
Hello,

I tried to play the game few months ago before starting W3 and the constantly occuring crashes made me stop in anger. DId anybody find a solution or at least a way to avoid the crashes?

Its a shame that such a big bad bug is still in the game, though its that old.

Regards in advance!

@MaxStrauss:

Thank you all very much. I don't know if it's solved by these patches, but I have been having this problem since I arrived to Flotsam in the German version. It would be great if CDPR took good care of their baby, it's a great game and it's a shame this issue is not addressed as of yet.
