I'm assuming I need to pass through the village to reach the sorceress but I can't because the guard keeps coming out and killing me after saying "Kill the bastard!"

How the heck do you get past that?
Hm..obvious questions first,is your sword sheathed?

If not..problem solved =)

If so..whats happening exactly? Flotsam guards are attacking you as you attempt to pass through?
yeah, i've tried having it sheathed, and out, but all the same result. I tried running through as fast as I can but no matter how hidden I am, I can't pass through. I killed guards earlier, and when the first time that happened I was expected to pay up 200 orens, and he said the next time I did it I wouldn't get away with it. This was after seeing the kayren for the first time with the sorceress fending it off from the village. But now since I killed another I think, he won't let me get away with being in any village area.
I just came back from finding the special herb for the kayren fight. (the ostmurk)

Strange :/ cant say ive ever enountered that since ive never made a habit of killing the guards.

So basically, you attacked guards at a previous point in the game..paid a 200 oren fine and continued on your business. Now,later in the game..you are getting attacked by the guards again..but this time for no reason? As in,youve done nothing to provoke them.

If you kill the town guards the first time, you can get away with a fine. If you kill them the second time (after paying the fine), it is insta-cutscene-death. I know because I tried it before.

No I remember killing one more guard, after paying that fine, but since then he's never forgiven me for it. Surely the developers of the game would allow you to continue playing if you wanted to kill off the guards... I find this situation a bit ridiculous though. I can't seem to get past him

and is there no way to bypass that without restarting the game????

No idea. Haven't tried to get away with killing guards twice before. I was fooling around so I had saves before where my record was still clean (hehe).

This is how the gameworld works I suppose: you fuck with them, they fuck you over. Much like how sometimes saying the wrong things to certain NPCs will get you killed instantly.
Seems to me that you have a glitch on your hands. According to vAddicatedGamer you should get instant killed for a second offence on the Guards..but you managed to avoid that somehow and perhaps left Flotsam in the meantime, did some quests.

Now that youve returned, you're endlessly getting assaulted by a guard that is killing you instantly. Sounds like a glitch to me..a paritcularly bad one if you have saved your game a few times in the meantime, while outside Flotsam etc

Well if you got out of Flotsam quick enough (there will usually be a delay before the cutscene occurs) you can "escape" but eventually you have to face the music.

Thats what im thinking the OP's problem is =) He's started a glitch inadvertently due to escaping. Now everytime he enters Flotsam he is going to get one shotted by an angry guard still playing out the AI behaviour he provoked earlier in his game.

I could be wrong of course..but thats what it sounds like to me. Ive never read of anyone having a similar problem thus far,on this forum or others. I feel for the OP if he/she has spent some time questing outside of flotsam in the meantime :/

The only solution might be to roll back to an earlier save.
Why on earth would you start killing the town guards?? There is no game play reason to do this. It is not as if there are not enough monsters out in the forest and swamps to kill...

Yeah, the game is designed to punish the foolish. Sorry but you get what you deserve, mate...

Re-load from a save before you killed the second guard, or better yet, before you killed the first one...

EDIT: You get an opportunity to kill loads of them later on, if you fancy having a go at them...

As noted above - it's a game mechanic that you will be killed if you kill guards twice. The first time you pay a fine. The second time you will be insta-killed. It's really no glitch - and it won't go away, even if you have managed to avoid the outcome this far.

Your only choice is to go back to a save before you killed [friendly] guards the second time. If that was in the Prologue, then it looks like you're restarting.

It's pretty much explained to you when you kill the first friendly guard... Don't do it.

Well some forum users are demanding for more monsters hehe...
Though i never personally got into killing guards because it seemed so utterly pointless. There is a distinct lack of humanoid combat in my opinion.

The majority of such combat scenarios are always in scripted battle scenes where Geralt has an AI companion screwing up the flow of battle. You hardly ever get to test your combat prowess with Geralt versus 6-7 humans, steel v steel without some sort of "help".

*potential mini-SPOILER*

In fact, one of my favourite fights in the entire game is during the Malena quest in Flotsam, where you get ambushed by a group of scoia'tael.

Basically,it would be nice if random bandit groups spawned consistantly in the wildnerness of the differant chapters or even within Flotsam itself at night. For me,whenever the thought of attacking the guards crossed my mind it was due to a wish for more humanoid fights.

Well there are some random bounty hunters in each act though. And there are some bandits in the swamp area in Chapter 1
