how can i check which patch i am using

If you haven't manually installed the 1.1 patch, then you're running 1.0.

But if you want to check, you can go into Program Files, then get into the game directory (which I assume is different based on the different versions, but mine is in the "GOG.com" folder), go into the "bin" subfolder and hover your mouse over the witcher2.exe file. If it says anything other than 1.2.abunchofrandomnumbers, then that save file won't work.

What version of the game do you have? GOG version or something else?

i have black box version . it is 1.0 .... something . is thr anyway i can use save game files

If you download the 1.1 patch here and then start up the game, it should autopatch to 1.2. Then you can use that save.

If it doesn't automatically update or your computer is offline, you can get the universal patch 1.2 here: http://www.en.thewitcher.com/patch1-2/

But updating is the only way to make that save work, but remember to update to 1.1 first. You need to install 1.1 before you can install 1.2.

You have to install two patches. 1.1 first, then 1.2 (which may install automatically if you load the game while connected to the internet). Once you're patched to 1.2 that file should work :)

i actually found 1.2 patch for black box version . do i still have to follow ur method

Patch 1.2 should be universal. As in, there's only one, not a bunch for specific versions. No matter what, you should have to install 1.1 first.

You'll have to patch to 1.2 for that to work, and I can tell that the save you posted is from before 1.2 based on the size.
