Archangel30: And what do I do with the trap part?
Use Yrden instead. I have never used the trap.

tahirahmed: Ostmurk is optional that I can say for sure because I fought kayran without it.

Actually I did a mistake by using all Ostmurk to create another potion (don't remember the name) but its the one that cause 50% intoxication. I later found that I need that to create a potion that helps me to fight kayran but the quest already entered into next phase (as I found ostmurk in cave earlier and wasted it), Cedric didn't helped then because its either Cedric or cave that you can choose.

So I turned the whole jungle upside down and didn't find any Ostmurk :( therefore I finally decided to face the consequences of my mistake and face Kayran without potion after all this is the fun element of RPG games ;)

Ok during fight I found a nice thing which DJHigher already mentioned that Quen sign is very useful in this fight. It allows exactly one hit to be totally absorbed and thus prevent any damage from that hit, what's even more wonderful is that it allows you to resist Kayran poison effect, you will still stuck in that poison but you won't loose any health.

There are two tricky parts however, first you need some practice for switching between QUEN and YRDEN sign during fight, that can be a bit difficult, the second thing is you vigor won't generate as long as Quen sign is active so for example if you have 3 vigor blocks you will use one for casting Quen and the other two for YRDEN so don't just waste them by casting at odd locations.

QTE takes a bit practice as well but fortunately I died more by tentacles than QTE miss clicks or key presses. I say play a lot of Capcom games for QTE practice :D
Actually you can make that potion without any ostmurk. How do i know? Because i manage to create 2 potions of that.
I actually managed to do it W/O the potion, if I manage to stay clear left or clear right of the creatures anus vomit fov.

Only reason being, is that it autosaved before the opening cutscene, and I had forgotten to take the potion. :\

coastie65: If You get over there by the Statue's feet, you can switch stuff around, you can't meditate to take more potions though. That is what I refer to as the "Safe" spot. I got over there by the feet, and took out one tenticle. Went back, recouperated, and then ran to the otherside and cut off a tenticle. came back and rested and then cut off the second tenticle on that side. Wasn't too bad, particularly wi the "Safe" spot. Just use some patience and you'll be fine.

Well that was interesting. I never tried to go up that way. That was a good video.

I took three potions, but they ran out long before I finished Kayran.

I don't believe that there are any benefits if you hadn't taken over if you had, IMHO.

Apparantly not. I had only cut one tenticle, but having the potions run out didn't seem to be a problem.

Archangel30: And what do I do with the trap part?
The metal frame is used to craft a Kayran Trap. You can buy the diagram from Cedric, then ask him to craft the trap. Then leave it in your back-back.

The Kayran Trap does NOT trap anything. All it does (if it is in your back-back) is automatically set a marker on the ground in front of the Kayran to show you where to cast Yrden. That is all. It works for the 2 tentacles on the left side of the Kayran (as you face it), the ones close to the statue where you can hide/rest.

Once those 2 tentacles are chopped off, the marker disappears and you need to figure out where to cast Yrden for the 3rd tentacle (on the other side) on your own.
Ah tnx. I did craft it but didn't go to fight Kayran yet (but was wondering how would I use it). I ran into Greater Rotfiend on my last play and after dying in like 5s went to sleep :D

that is wrong actually. you place the kayran trap on those markers, and it automatically sewers one tentacle if hits, without you needing to chop it off manually.

Really?? Something to remember for next time...;)
Anyway, the marker is a good guide to know where to cast Yrden

i'm sorry this may seem like i'm trying to refute everything you say, but that also is inaccurate. the tentacle lands at the point where geralt is the moment its animation start. so you do not need to cast yrden to those places. just wait till the kayran starts to lift a tentacle, cast yrden and roll sideways.

again, sorry for the wise-assery....:)

well thats a good secret revealed, won't ask you how because if it is possible then I will try it on my next play through. Thanks for telling by the way. :)
That trap works sometimes, for some reason didn't worked on my final video.

I had to use Yrden.

Meh, Crafted the trap, but didn't use it. Probably can't sell the thing either.
the kayran hit with its non-injured arm and broke the trap there. bugger does that from time to time :P
