I've gotten towards the end of my Flotsam adventure (I think) in being ready to face the Kayran. Problem is that I want to see for myself what will happen if I don't get any assistance. I'm assuming that this is possible because the quest option says "Find some ostmurk or go see Sile to fight the Kayran". I'm assuming I don't need the girl's help, as my Geralt is all about the money, so is this an actually possibility or is it merely a misnomer on the quest dialogue? Thanks!
The ostmurk is for a potion to give you resistance to the Kayran's poison. I'm not sure if it affects the amount of gold you get. I imagine if you are good and dodging the poison attack you wouldn't need it.

I don't think it is possible to fight the Kayran without Sile's help, since she has to get it out of the water and trap it on the shore.
I must say I have no idea. All the time I have always fought the kayran with Sile's help. But ostmurk is optional (but helpful).
They really worded this wrong.

It should say Find Ostmurk and seek Sile for help OR just seek Sile for help..

Or something like that. You have to have her (unless there's something I don't know) to summon the Kayran..but the potion you don't have to have ..it's just poison resistance..doesn't even help that much...if you do this fight right..you'll barely even get hit..
With or without Ostmurk is the option.
i got past the Kayran with nothing no ostmurk no help just the woman who gets it on shore after traping the the fist time cast Quen to asborb damage trap it then
hide to the left side of the foot of the Statue (good place to recover too)

repeat 3/4 times

rest is easy

thats all i am saying don`t want to spoil the rest

i took me well over 1 hour this way mostly due to waiting to recover from damage

As others said, the ostmurk is optional. Same goes for the Kayran trap diagram you can get from Cedric. The trap helps you to see where to cast Yrden, but is not necessary.

You must speak with Stile in the inn to initialise the battle, and she comes along. You have no choice in this. All she does is lure the beast on shore, you must do the rest alone.
Ostmurk is optional that I can say for sure because I fought kayran without it.

Actually I did a mistake by using all Ostmurk to create another potion (don't remember the name) but its the one that cause 50% intoxication. I later found that I need that to create a potion that helps me to fight kayran but the quest already entered into next phase (as I found ostmurk in cave earlier and wasted it), Cedric didn't helped then because its either Cedric or cave that you can choose.

So I turned the whole jungle upside down and didn't find any Ostmurk :( therefore I finally decided to face the consequences of my mistake and face Kayran without potion after all this is the fun element of RPG games ;)

Ok during fight I found a nice thing which DJHigher already mentioned that Quen sign is very useful in this fight. It allows exactly one hit to be totally absorbed and thus prevent any damage from that hit, what's even more wonderful is that it allows you to resist Kayran poison effect, you will still stuck in that poison but you won't loose any health.

There are two tricky parts however, first you need some practice for switching between QUEN and YRDEN sign during fight, that can be a bit difficult, the second thing is you vigor won't generate as long as Quen sign is active so for example if you have 3 vigor blocks you will use one for casting Quen and the other two for YRDEN so don't just waste them by casting at odd locations.

QTE takes a bit practice as well but fortunately I died more by tentacles than QTE miss clicks or key presses. I say play a lot of Capcom games for QTE practice :D
If You get over there by the Statue's feet, you can switch stuff around, you can't meditate to take more potions though. That is what I refer to as the "Safe" spot. I got over there by the feet, and took out one tenticle. Went back, recouperated, and then ran to the otherside and cut off a tenticle. came back and rested and then cut off the second tenticle on that side. Wasn't too bad, particularly wi the "Safe" spot. Just use some patience and you'll be fine.

Whenever I do the fight I go run back towards the little cliff you jump down from.

I am still at the get ostruk or go to Sile part, but I noticed I can already create a potion that gives me 10000% poison resistance :D

Also I got the trap part from the commanders house but nobody told me what to do with it later.

Also, when you kill the Kayran, can you finish all the side quests or do I need to do them all before?
Anyone?
No you dont need the potion ( it does give you a unlocked passive perk however if you use it during the fight )

Yes you can finish all side quests after the Kayran fight.
And what do I do with the trap part?
