I down scale screen solution, put it on window mode to play some boss battle. Just have to accept it with my pc.

Regarding the tentacles: you can only trap the tentacle with the red bumps.

Change the camera view such that you can see the tentacle raises. When it raise, you can basically rolls away. It WILL HIT the traps.

Regarding QTE, oh my god, if you played it second times, then you can expect when to hit it rite?

After you figure out the fight, it isn't even too bad. It's just about a kind of trial-and-error and adapting.
I've leveled up as much as I possibly could, and am completing every quest prior to the Kayran. Hopefully, I won't get my ass handed to me too bad LOL, but if I do...ah, the enjoyment of playing a challenging game! I love that TW 2 has made me work so hard thus far, and I hope that continues. It makes the game much more satisfying.

This boss is stupidly easy. I mean really.
I have no idea why there is so much whinging. If you have ever played any games with big bosses you should know to look for weak spots. They are very obvious on the creature.
It really does spoon feed you.

I don't usually say this because its arrogant, but..... learn to fookin play for gods sake.

salacious: I like how Geralt replies to Sile yelling at him to use Yrden. "Why don't you come down here and do it?"
LOL Yeah, that was funny. Not so funny what that thing did to me though. I'll get me revenge in time. I wasn't really that much into getting after the Kayran at the time and was just checking things out ( forgot to potion up and do some other preps anyway ).

baba264: I personally needed about a dozen tries before I nailed him down and I admit that I didn’t really find them entertaining.

It really is a matter of opinion whether one likes the fight or not. For me the issue was pretty clear cut. In cRPG I dislike real time fights based on skill and reflexes and prefer turn based fights based on strategy and stat optimization. I don’t mind difficulty, I just dislike when that difficulty is based on how well I can use the controls of the game.

TW1 was not turn based, but at least combat was a fluid experience that you could approach in a laid back way. Therefore, it seldom was an obstacle to the development of the story.

Unfortunately for me, with TW2, combat has become much more action oriented, getting a feel very akin to a God of War title. As such, it requires, concentration, reflexes, skill and so on…

I’m sure this pleases a majority of gamers, especially those who also enjoy console’s action Rpg titles, but for me this really wasn’t a positive point.
Agreed. However the problem of the kayran boss is that you can't just rely on your skill. It's all about trials and errors and finding the attack patterns. Once you figure out the patterns you can then easily beat the boss.

I found the whole process so tedious and not entertaining at all.

Corylea: . They complained that to re-do the fight, you had to sit through a long cutscene and that the fight started with no good save point before it.
A simple right click of the mouse will skip the cut scene as it will throughout the game.

I thought it was funny how the sorceress kept yelliong at Geralt throughout the battle. One run through he shouted back something along the lines of "Why don't you come down here and do it?"

like some said combat is all about preferences and to me, this game is a perfect blend of classic rpg with action style combat. I love it.
Add me to the list of people who are finding the fight frustratingly difficult and maddeningly tedius. I've done all the side quests I know of , and am at level 9 (nearly 10, and wondering what XP I missed that others have found). I've buffed with potions, upgraded my armor and sword, and am trying to learn from what I've read here, but I still haven't finished the fight. I suppose I'm getting better because I did just get to one of the "tentacle rides," but then died (AGAIN) because I didn't whack the spacebar in time.

I'd be less angy if I had the option to SAVE MY PROGRESS at some point during the battle, so that I could continue without having to run through the whole freaking fight again. If it's too complicated to let me choose the save time, how about an auto-save after each tentacle gets severed? Being set back to square one after each defeat has completely blown the immersion and fun of the game and now feels like a chore.

Will try again later today when I'm less likely to smash my mouse or keyboard.
ive just defeated the kayran after numerous attempts.i used the quen sign for protection and as i attacked each tentacle whilst it was trapped i stopped for a few seconds to replenish my stats before finishing off each tentacle, figured out after many frustrating trys that i had to run to the left and up the ramp to finish.if it was easy then it wouldnt be a challenge

Keep at it. Took me about 7 tries just to get on the tentacle ride because I didn't see the QTE cues. Had to do the tentacle ride I think 3 times because... I didn't see the QTE cues. Basically, as soon as you chop off the third tentacle pay very close attention to the bottom of the screen. As soon as you see the cue flash, start spamming RMB. Then LMB and as soon as that's done, spam spacebar.

I didn't completely miss the QTE cues, but was late enough on them that I blew my first tentacle ride. Regarding the cues, it seems ironic to me that one of the few "benefits" of having to replay the sequence over and over (watching the cinematics of the fight) also goes out the window when you suddenly realize that you should have been staring at one spot on the screen so that you'd notice an alert message.

In the hours between my post and most recent attempt, I considered the various options I could try -- lowering screen resolution to increase control responsiveness, cranking the difficulty down (from Normal), etc -- and decided that I'd had enough trial and error. I found a God Mode mod and loaded it long enough to get through this fight; as it turned out I still had to run through it twice more because the first time one of the severed tentacles was left floating in mid-air, where it wound up blocking the path up the collapsed bridge section.

I've unloaded the God mod and am looking forward to getting back to some more reasonable game play.
9 pages and this haven't been posted yet...

1. Cast Quen.
2. With your Quen up and running stand to the side (where his capturable tentacles are) and cast Yrden.
3. With your Yrden in place just stand on it doing nothing (but be sure your Quen is still up).
4. Kayran will try to hit you, and since you're staying in place he will hit you. But since you are under Quen this will not hurt you. Also Since you were standing on Yrden he's guaranteed to hit Yrden aswell. Run up to the glowing part of his tentacle and chop it up. Also, since he hits like a mad truck your Quen is almost guaranteed to end once he hits you, and since it takes time to chop him and to watch him wrigle after loosing his tentacle your vigor is almost guaranteed to regenerate, so that you can repeat from #1.

- Aditional tip: If you want to accelerate the procces you can "cross the field" after succesfully choping his tentacle with the kayran trap. Choping it down manualy roots you in place, but choping it down with a trap allows you to cross to the other side before he starts his "kayran is angry" rootine.
- Aditional tip: You get your first chance for a QTE after he loses his 3rd tentacle, but you only get subsequent chances after he loses his 4th tentacle. So if your QTE-fu is good you can cross after choping down one tentacle, but if you doubt it it's better to cross after choping down 2 tentacles.

5. The QTE iteslf consists of "R-click -> spam L-click-> press 'space' "sequence. Since there's no penalty for pressing the button at the wrong time you can do it like this - "Spam R-click -> Spam L-click -> Spam 'space' "

6. after QTE. you need to climb the bridge that has fallen on Kayran. I've noticed a trend that if I start climbing immidiately the Kayran always hits me, but if I wait behind the part of a bridge that fell appart from the rest for atleast 3 stone throws he always misses me (and i've gone through kayran battle several times in quick succession while testing the "haggling" trait accuisition method).

I don't find it exeptionaly hard. Sure I had to reload several times the first time I killed him, now I reload several times to get 2 kayran skins off his carcass (or atleast I did before the 1.2 hit me below the belt). Most of the times I manage not to get hit at all, since he's not that hard to dodge (I still wear Quen as back-up though).

And I don't like the kayran design either. Instead of traditional fight, but a hard one we get an friggin arcade boss fight wich can be completed at any level, you can even remove the arcade elements by using quen and it doesn't need to be upgraded either. In the end it boils down to a primitive QTE that shouldn't take more than 3 tries (to learn the sequence).

Probably even lv 1 would do, if you could get there at that level, mater of fact - I recomend going for kayran early, this gives nice EXP boost, unless ofcause you want your aditional ingredient drop from alchemy before that fight (which while doesn't give you 4 skins, still seems to help with getting 2 skins), that'd however require some grinding, as you would need to be at least lv 11.

Thing is, if I wanted QTEs and arcade fights I'd look for a different game on a different platform...
