I've seen in another thread where someone claimed that it was possible by being as nice as possible to Iorveth, then taking Roche's side but after a couple of tries i haven't been able to do it. Has anyone else been successful?
anybody? No one else has tried?

i'm pretty sure that's not possible...but if someone did it I would also like to know

--- Spoiler ---

Well you can be as nice as possible to Iorveth (side with him at the Elven Bath) but in the end you still have to choose one of them (yes you can still choose Roche at that stage). As far as I know, they do not work together.

Yes. You have to go through the whole game without being hit, then roll into the wall opposite the kayran lair 777 times and it will open up, revealing the triforce. And Mew. And the nude code.
Questions re the different paths: (without spoilers please)

1. Are they significantly different endings if you choose one guy over the other? (worth playing though from the decision point on again?)

2. Does anything change if you shake Dethmold's hand when you meet him vs not shaking it?

1. Yes. The entirety of chapter 2 and most of chapter 3 run you through completely different quests. If you beat the game one way, you've not even fully explored 2/3rds of the game's content.

2. I've never tried not shaking his hand.

you gotta have both caerme and the master ball in your inventory to do it, though!

You can do it without the master ball. You just have to press a and b at the same time JUST as the ball shakes the first time and it'll turn into a master ball.
One thing that does kind of bother me about TW2 is that there is no neutral path (either in the sense that you can side with both Iorveth/Roche or you can side with neither). I know one of the big themes of both games is that you always have to pick a side, but at least in the TW1 you could side with yourself.

i think that didn't work for me because the operator summoned missingno instead of gargoyles during the fourth wave.

I'm entering chapter 3 after NOT shaking his hand, and he's still being a dick, kinda glad I didn't shake it.

There is no direct (Avoiding Roche/Iorveth's path) Neutral path, but the progress(Choices) one makes in the game till the end bends towards neutrality. Even till the end where you get the choice to spare or kill the dragon....

Thou the game itself takes you through different sides in Act 2 and Act 3 with regard, but..again..the choices you make moves towards neutrality.
I'd argue that no matter which path you chose for chapter 2 and 3, saving Triss is the "neutral" choice. You can really throw the Northern Kingdoms into chaos depending on some of the choices you've made throughout the game.

"A pox on both your houses - I'm saving my girl!"

I see what you mean there, but on Iorveth's path this is not so much, as you still find the dagger to free Saskia from the spell, and on sparing her dedicate yourself to freeing her from the curse. It's even possible he goes to do that when you see that last shot of him standing in the mountains looking down at Triss. :)

Triss also mentions Roche is still fighting for the restituition of Temeria, that he survived to reach Loc Muinne and turned down Radovid's bribe.

To me it is the most stable ending, as by saving Triss you also save the conclave, only removing Sile and Phillipa, rather than setting all the kigdoms against mages in general.

But yes, I see what you mean as the neutral path common to both Iorveth and Roche.
