A significant number of people have had issues with the Kayran for one reason or another, and have had to upload their saves and rely on others to get past that point.

Of course, that may not always be possible, and having to get a stranger to get past that point every time they want to play through the game would be a hassle. Early on in the game the only real decision that you make is whether Aryan La Valette lives or dies, so I played through two saves to represent those two choices without leveling up.

All of that basically means you can download this pack of two saves (both downloads are identical and contain both saves) and specialize in whatever you want since none of the points have been spent:

http://www.mediafire.com/?qgvm090j59aqmhf
http://depositfiles.com/files/meefewzon (tends to last longer)

Both saves should be at level 9 with none of the quests finished except for those in the prologue, the silver sword quest (I imported a Witcher 1 save so it was automatically completed), the "Woe to the Vanquished" quest (basically a prologue quest that only counts as finished in Chapter 1), and the Ostmurk/Kayran-related quests. I also accepted the "Claws of Madness" and "Mystic River" quests (though I didn't actually do anything to complete them), because those are quests you're most likely to discover doing Kayran-related things. I didn't look at the Flotsam quest board or accept any of those quests.

Both saves should have the Cover, Strong Stomach, and Conjuror perks, the Kayran looted, and start beside the Kayran's corpse :)

Be sure you're patched to 1.2, or else those saves won't work.

That'a nice thing of you to do for people who have problems with that fight. :)
You could also post it on the Witcher Nexus, just a suggestion.

Is there a special section for save games there? I thought that site was just for mods.
Hi I'm not very smart with tech stuff can someone explain to me how to be able to play the actual save after ive downloaded it

Put it in \My Documents\Witcher 2\gamesaves folder and you should be able to load it :)
Still not working :/

Did you unpack the saves with something like WinRAR or 7-zip (my personal favorite)?

And make sure you're patched to 1.2, too. They introduced save game compression that doesn't work with earlier versions :)
Sorry my internet decided to suck all the sudden I'll get back to you as soon as possible
Finally it worked. Thanks both of you so very much. I can finally play the rest of the game :)

In the more established nexus-es such as Fallout 3 and FNV, there are categories assigned to saved games. You can probably post the generic save under the Miscellaneous section.

Alright, I did just that. A bit of an ordeal navigating through that site :)

If anyone has any other places they think the file would belong, feel free to upload it. I don't really care about credit or anything like that.

EDIT FOR AWESOME: I just realized that the timestamp on the ^ upload is 22:27. Maybe a number too long, but it still made me happy.

Does anyone still have a copy of these files? If so could you post their location for download. Thanks in advance.

You should probably be fine with those: http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher2/mods/156/?

Yeah, the person above has a link to the other place I uploaded them to, but you should probably be aware that one of the game updates caused older save games to bug out in certain parts. Most notably, a wheel you have to interact with on one of the two paths later on is turned sideways so that you can't reach it, which makes the game impossible to complete unless you have a way of installing an older version of the game. So it's probably not a good idea to use those saves (or any others from 2011).

I do have a save from after the Kayran (but before collecting the reward for killing it) that was made on the newer version of the game and that won't glitch like that, though: link

... But I can't recall whether I spared Aryan or how many quests I did beforehand because it's from 3-4 years ago. Still, it's from a playthrough where I didn't level up at all, so it's like the saves in the OP in that none of the points are spent and you can level up however you want. It's on the "dark" difficulty, too, so you can keep it on that or switch it down to whatever you want. If that's not close enough to what you're looking for, though, I'd recommend trying the Witcher 2 section of the official forum (here).

What about "Do it yourself"?

I know, I know. This seems to be an annoying fight, too hard, impossible maybe. Like many bossfights in TW1/2/3. On the first sight, and on the second too. But as soon as you know how to manage them, they look easy.

Unbelievable? No. If you got to this point in chapter 1 without cheating, then you are able to beat the kayran. It's no fight at all, it's a ballet, a choreography. And you don't need a good armour, no potions, no oils, no good equipment: the cheapest silver sword will do the job. It's not necessary to be very skilled: No rolling required, and concerning the movement keys: only one, "W".

There's only one thing which is really useful for beginners of kayran-fighting: The trap. Not as trap, but as signpost (!!!).

Here's the roadmap:

Switch to difficulty level "easy", this means: Only one QTE, else three.

Geralt has the trap

Without trap
