ichobi: You CAN get the dagger even if you go with Triss and dragon later. When you defeat the dragon you will come back to town and see Iorveth getting captured by some scums. Defeat them and you will get the dagger.

K_Murx: Actually, I tried fighting this scum, but could not - the first dialogue option did not lead to a fight, and the second one was "I don't car" or something like that.
So... How do I rescue Iorveth?
I like to cast quen, draw my steel sword and toss a grapeshot into the cluster of "guards". That gets their attention and starts a fight off right.
I found Deithwen to be much better than that Zerrikanterment, you find while following Iorveth and you have to go through the caves, instead of following him blindly and into the caves to fight the Arachas; right before going in, take a left. You will come to a dead end and between 2 Arachas, one has a unique shell on its back. Kill them and loot the skeletons to the far right.

Deithwen with 3 Ysgith is better than Zerrikantement with its 2 slots having 2 Ysgith, as it does more damage 53-59 as to 51-56; and because majority of the enemies in chapter 3 are large monsters and gargoyles, it does to those kinds 25% extra damage.

Agreed. Btw what is this sword from Gargoyle side quest that everyone's been talking about?

Addan Deith, you get it from one of the 3 rooms in a magically sealed chest while doing the Gargoyle side quest. It is the last room you get to, to do the quest of extinguishing the ruin markings, the room is near where that meeting will take place. Iorveth is standing at the door, makes him on the opposite side of where that room is on the map.

I think Addan Deith better than Deithwen and i liked its name much more too, if i am not mistaken Deithwen means "White Flame" and Addan Deith means "Dancing Flame" or something like that.
I am kind of torn between the 2 when fighting The Dragon even though I chose Addan Deith, but against Letho I do prefer Addan Deith. Though the fact that Deithwein is picked up at the beginning of Chapter 3 instead of the end like Addan Deith makes it very important to have.

err.... why do you use a silver sword (Addan Deith) against Letho ???
he might be a monster from your pov in a symbolic way but technically he still is a human ( kind of ) :P

Actually Witchers should be more susceptible against silver swords than they are to silver ones as they are what they are thanks to sorcery, which means they are actually magical creatures, in my opinion at least.

By the way this is the opinion of someone who only read the first two books due to others not being translated and played the two games. So please correct me if you think something's wrong about my thoughts.

you can get a stronger silver sword in the 6th rune. just get the combination.

Sorry, I was half asleep when I posted that, and didn't give it a second thought. I actually used a steel sword against Letho. My apologies. :)

6th rune? What do you mean?

I was talking about the 6th rune chamber in the gargoyle contract side mission. If you loot the chest in that chamber you get the "Addan Deith" sword, which is slightly better than "Zerrikanterment" sword.

6th? There are only 3. I don't find Zerrikanterment useful either, but I favor Deithwen over Addan Deith; damage against gargoyles and large monsters is important in Act 3.

Sorry my bad i meant in the first one, the one near the elf girl that can grow a beard.
Besides what will you do with the sword after you finish the gargoyle contract and there will be no more of them?
