Aramyn89: There's an alternate route you can take to get this dlc up and running, it doesn't use the game launcher. It's what I ended up doing after several failed attempts to install the DLC the proper way.

First you need to visit this link and download the .rar file.
http://www.mediafire.com/?3v941nnn9b18nsx

Once it's downloaded, extract it somewhere. Open the folder up and inside you will see the troll.dzip file. Copy and paste that file into your C:/program files/The Witcher 2/CookedPC folder. If all went well you should now be able to pick up the quest off the notice board in Flotsam.
Thanks a lot...
But is that even legal? ö_ö

I imagine it is.. but I can't be positive. It's not like you're stealing anything though by doing it, the DLC is free after all and you still need to have bought the game. I tried doing it the proper way many times with no success. I'd rather do it this way then wait days/weeks for a fix.

Kodos to you sir and thank you. I asked GOG about links to the DLC and upcoming patches and so far no reply. This is getting frustrating and I'm losing faith in my new experience, the way that CD Projekt seems to saying you can only get patches to allow the game to work if you expose your windows box directly to the Internet which I have no itention of doing. Too much work to make sure no "phone home" operations going on. I purchase a game to have, fun not feel I need to monitor it. So many people having to work to enjoy game/content we were told were included in the package. I'll have to check the content to make sure it has no "extra features" but thanks a mil fellow Canadian.

CD Projekt Red: I want to like you guys but I'm not real fond of how you are handling DLC distribution right now (based on this I'm fearful for the patches as well). I cannot even register on your site. I'm losing my faith guys. Come on, let's stop playing games (no pun intended) and to this right. I should be able to get all the files I've paid for without exposing my clean XP box to processes executed over the Internet. Official Links for patches and DLC PLEASE. (I'd register on the website if I could...)
I am not happy with game controls as I can't change to how I use my KBoard as to regards WSAD prefer to use the arrow keys & unable to pick up things apart from that no trouble installing/activatig etc on the face of it good game when this patch 1.1 arrives well Rome was'nt built in a day!! was it?. Patience fellow Witchers Patience.
Patch 1.1 is out. Did it provide a solution to you guys?
Error message simply change when I patched. Now it simply can't write the file despite there being adequate hard drive space.

Makes me wonder if the UAC is interfering.

edit: Except I have the UAC off, so no idea.

The last time I did: after download the patch from GOG.com => run with with administration rights.

That is normally needed if you have the UAC enabled, which I don't. My account is also the local administrator, so on both ends I should have been covered.

Just to verify, I ran both the patcher and the launcher with the admin escalated privileges and the error remains "Error writing file. Retrying in 10 seconds".
I could not try it yet, but the info on Witcher official site states that the downloader still has a problem so troll trouble is more like included in patching and don't use the downloader at all till next patch. So I suppose Troll trouble should be available in Flotsam simply after patching. I will try this evening.
I have 64-bit Win7 and I was unable to download the DLC too, but the patch worked fine and the quest was there in Flotsam after patching, so it's not related to Windows. After patching just check the notice board in front of the inn, the quest should be there.
After patching the troll quest is available for me too.
