I said you probably didn't understand because what you said makes NO sense. As written above, imagine watching Return of the Jedi and having no idea what Jabba and the other aliens are saying because you have subtitles off. It makes NO sense. It something that should be fixed in a patch, period.

"Ohhh shooooodaaaa, com chum Wookie!" Yes, I don't recall what that means, I would need to watch the movie again. Something about Chewbacca.

I agree with you, subtitles are quite a necessity at times.

Exactly. Imagine no subtitles appearing for Jabba's lines and Lucas saying that was the way it was meant to be. When Jabba and Leia as the bounty hunter argue over the price for Chewbacca the audience would have NO idea what was going on, because both speak in an alien language.

The scene I am pissy about in TW2 is the same thing. Geralt and the elf are both speaking elvish and I even have to make dialogue choices like "where did he go?" and "what happened next?" when I have no idea what I am responding to. Who s he? What happened? I don't know!

But yeah sure, this was all "meant to be that way." Nevermind that with subtitles on you understand the entire conversation, no... that is the bug. You are actually supposed to have no idea.

I'm going to assume they don't know how to have some subtitles be on no matter what when the rest of them are off.

I totally agree; I find playing with subtitles distracts immensely from the experience. Please turn subtitles ON for the lines that you can't hear in English, and the rest configurable to on/off!

Also, does anyone know if the Nilgaardian ambassador's Nilfgaardian-language conversation with the witch in Act 3 is translated in subtitles? I totally missed what they said.

Surely it can't be difficult to for them to force the subs on prior to a scene like that starting? I watched The Godfather on DVD yesterday, not being deaf I didn't have the subtitles on, however as soon as they started speaking Italian the subs came on anyway. It's a good job the movie wasn't made by CDP, I wouldn't have had a clue what they were talking about.

I wouldn't think it would be that hard, but since Marcin said the engineers told him it was impossible or whatever I think maybe that is what they meant? Movies do it by burning certain subtitles into the image, maybe it's not that simple with games.

In any case I hope for more of an answer than "it's supposed to be that way" which is completely wrong. applecore's post has me worried there are more examples of this later in the game.

I waited for the patch before I started the game so I've not got that far, I'm going to switch them on so I don't get caught out but I really shouldn't have to.

Hard to say for sure since choices result in varied gameplay but I never encountered anything like this until chapter two, so you might want to play with them off until then. If it is just the one example then it's chapter two when talking to the prisoner, which isn't a spoiler and should be simple to turn subtitles on before you do it.
