3DMaster: I found a Madness mutagen in flotsam; never actually used it though. It as +2 armor and some added vitality and that's it. If it had more shit, but eh. Does it have random properties or something? Does my next madness mutagen have entirely different added stats?
Put it in a slot and mouse over it, you will see it also provides a damage boost equivalent to a power mutagen.
After farming the Flotsam Nekker cave for mutagens over and over, I finally got a Madness Mutagen. I was beginning to believe that they didn't exist in Patch 1.2!

Now, I guess I'll have to try that mod that allows you to combine mutagens, since I have craploads of other ones. I did notice another thing... after some time, I stopped getting XP for killing Nekkers there - not that you got much anyway. Don't know if it's because my level is too high (Lvl 14), or if you can only get a certain amount of XP from there?

I believe they have levels as well, and relative to your level you get less and less xp from killing them. In my other post where I got stuck in an endless wraith spawn cycle they stopped awarding me xp after I hit lvl 17.
Makes some sense, I guess, since from what I've read there is a level cap for Act 1- lvl19 so I've read. Would be tough to get there if you don't get XP from Nekkers! LOL
In order to hit 19 you would have to find the highest level monster in the chapter and farm it, maybe drowned dead?

AudreyWinter: I've now crafted a madness mutagen (VERY expensive, don't try this at home). I wanted to know if it is true that it affects more stats than it states. And it is.

With impregnation 2/2 I get:
15 Vitality
+4 damage reduction (armor)
+3 min. damage
+5 max. damage
You mean via the mutagen-as-byproduct skill? Amazing. By the way, the mutagen guide here http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/the_nearly_complete_mutagen_guide has already listed all the mutagens' effect with different levels of Impregnation, including Madness

Verican: ...
Do you think the second point in that skill (mutagen-as-byproduct) is worth it? Or were you able to get the whole spectrum (greater) with only 1 talent?

Absolutely was! 2% vs 10% is a big difference. I count on mutagen are high value surplus alch materials for my income since most my weight is taken up by bombs and some other crafting materials. Almost all weapons and armor stay where I find them.

After a bomb making session it is rare that I don't have a scrollable mutagen window where I started with none.

Nope, by Mutageneology mod.
I don't believe you can produce a madness mutagen with alchemy, until someone proves they did.

Btw. I haven't even slotted my madness mutagen yet, nor have I legitimately found one - not in the first playthrough and not so far in the second (2nd Chapter).
What level were you at the end of chapter 1?

Ah, it would do wonders for the income. I was wondering because I want to build an optimized character for my current playthrough. Maybe I can generate all the mutagens I need and then respec in Chapter 3.

I have only found 1 in each of my playthroughs.

Who? Me?
I'm not sure, didn't pay close attention. I think I levelled up 2 levels when transitioning to Chapter 2. I think you level to 17 there, right?

Not sure, I am usually around lvl 13-14 by the time I hit chapter 2 and that's with a lot of monster killing. If you are already 17 by the time you finish chapter 1 you are way ahead of where I am usually at!

I was going to suggest more aimless wandering around and killing things while enjoying the environment of the game. I have 4 madness mutagens already from looting creatures. Been stocking up in herbs trying to see if I can get a madness mutagen from alch before going to chapter 2.

Read again: I said I think I levelled two levels in transition and I think you get to level 17 at the beginning of Chapter 2. But I don't know either for sure, so I might have been at 15... or not. But I did my share of monster slaying, I like to go hunting by night. ;)

Used my madness mutagen just now. It was expensive enough not to sit around now.
Of course, after that expensive self made MM, I get two of them off some harpies, figures. Now I don't even know what to do with all the M&M's. Was fun though to scrape together all the stuff and create it, great mod. Next playthrough, I will use other mods, that are incompatible with it - unless you put a lot of work in it. It's nice to be able to do it differently every time. And no more M&M's for me next time around, I promise! :D
