The Witcher 2 was my most anticipated game since october 2007, when I first finished Witcher 1 (not Enhanced, but in version 1.1, without any problems or large bugs).

So when it came out, I immediately downloaded gog version (with CE on its way) and started playing May 17th. 6 days and some 45 ingame hours later, I finished the game.

Now it has been two months and I still find myself checking these forums every day, thinking about the game every day, and watching its 3 utterly brilliant trailers (disdain and fear, hope, love and blood) every few days or so.

I just cannot believe how good the game is. Please note that I had only 1 insignificant bug, I have 16:10 screen and small black bars mean nothing to me, and I had flawless, crash-free experience.I played on ultra details (1920*1200, uber off) with x360pad.
So I am judging purely the game itself, since I did not and do not have any technical issues.

Everything - from graphics, where its combination of artistic vision and technical superiority makes it best looking game I have ever played (and yes, I played other stunners like Uncharted 2, Crysis 1+2, Metro, Red Dead Redemption..), to gameplay itself, with extremely done quests without any filler, very fun combat that requires being careful, being prepared...

to writing, which surprised me the most. In Witcher 1, there was some good writing in it, and some worse writing. I love the game to bits, but it was not completely on the level of books that preceded it (I read all 7 of them, first time 12 years ago, second time year ago, love them).

Witcher 2 though....it is written so well it could have been written by Sapkowski himself. It just blew me away. Every single character is interesting. There are no caricatures. Story itself is just wonderfully done, and there are even two completely different paths to go through it, with many smaller decisions and consequences along the way.
I played Iorveth's path only so far (will replay with Roche once 1.3 is out) and it was just incredible. It is just amazing continuation of books, and I hope if Sapkowski ever decides to write about Geralt again, he will not invalidate the stories of the games.
Because if he does, I guess I would just ignore his next books, or take them as non-canon.

Witcher 2 just seems so much above its competition. I want to thank the team at CDP for giving me such an amazing experiences. Everything they do, from awesome distribution of games in central europe, to forming GOG, to bringing Geralt to our screens in such amazing form...just thank you. I hope you will never change, never get bought, keep your current team (I hope Tomek wil return one day too) and keep creating games like Witcher 2 for us.

I hoped that at E3 we would see expansion announcement, now my hopes are focused towards gamescom. I am jonesing here for more Witcher.

Glad to hear someone sharing their positive experience! Most people only bother to post to share their frustration and anger as an effort to relieve their stress (which is only natural) so it's great to see someone sharing the love for something they enjoyed :-)

As for Mr. Andrzej, there's a rumour that he's returning to write some more on Geralt. Who can blame him? The interest in the franchise is higher than ever, thanks to CDPR, and the latest works of his did a bit worse than expected. A few years ago he gave his blessings to CDPR, and confirmed the games as canon. Let's hope he doesn't change his mind.

If we don't get new expansion in this year, we will probably get new Enhanced Edition by the end of the year at least. Which will have the X360 version enhancements. I'm curious what will CD Projekt change or add.

BTW some stupid website give The Witcher 2 55/100 only 3 days ago :-/. This one review draw done the average score on metacritic from 88 to 87%, while this game deserves +90% .

This is a real rpg and sequel. An improvement of the original in every way and not dumbed down. Yes there are flaws but I can over look tem.

Haha, my friend, exactly the same here! I finished my 1st playthrough Iorveth side with only 2 or 3 CTD and didn't really notice bugs. Waiting for patch 1.3 to finish ROche's path, but even though I can't get rid of this great game from my mind, I keep cheking this forum, Metacritic, reading reviews and so on :) Oh, and I played it on my 4:3 monitor and guess what...still loved it!

Someone mentioned Dragon Age and I remember watching EA conference few days ago when they announced new DLC for DA. They were saying that there are many new and innovative things in there so I was curious to see what would that be. And well, I have to admit that in "post-Witcher-2 era" devs really need to step up with their game, cause what I saw in that DA's gameplay just made me laugh.

I know why, because you are waiting for news on the 1.3 patch :). Anyway, nice to see a post with such teeming positivity. I especially commend you for not feeling that you have to bash other games or negative reviews in order to express your admiration for the game.

Yeah I find it a bit sad that Witcher 2 has 87 while, say, Halo 3 has 94. But in the end, who cares. I know how my experience was and that is all that matters to me. If someone did not enjoy it, too bad for them, but I don't really care.And if more people enjoyed Halo 3 than Witcher 2, that is fine too. I did not, but again, who cares.

Of course, that does not mean there is not a valid criticism to be made of Witcher 2.

If I could improve few things about Witcher 2, it would be:

1)More options in combat, I would like to be able to make a pirouette, saltos..like in Witcher 1 and the books

2) Improved, more consistent inventory

3) The ending could have been a bit meatier. It was still great, but the ending cutscene could have been a bit longer.


But in complete scheme of the game, these are very minor nitpicks. Well, I am interested in patches, and new content, but I am also interested in the game itself. I did not see any similar thread on the first page here so I just felt like voicing a bit of my positive opinion towards the game and CDP :-).

I share the same experience with you paul. The game is indeed awesome and my jaws dropped when i first saw the forest when i was in flotsam. What i would have said has already been covered by your goodself.

Overall, i would say there's still much room for improvement. The game is a little short to me even i have replayed the game twice. Replayability is only tied to the storyline. The game is quite short and i would have hope for more side quests, more location that i can explore and discover on my own, more monsters and enemies to fight with (contracts, etc.). The game combat really shine as an Action RPG and i would prefer if they add more RPG elements to it.

It's really a great game and i really love it. But i won't see myself replaying it with patch 1.3. Probably gonna reload an earlier save game and try out the new DLC.

Thanks CDPR too for such a great experience. You guys shine at doing things one at a time but i would have hope that you guys grew larger and at least concentrate on 2 titles simultaneously without sacrificing development and content for either games.

And wished that you get back the revenue that the bastards NB owed you. You guys deserved every penny out out it.

Well, I don't know how they should be even considering doing that in nearest future, when they get slapped and disrespected for how TW2 is broken, bugged and unplayable and how they sacrificed the cleaness of the PC temple for some console abomination.

I hope that they grow enough to hire a proper Q&A team for the Witcher 3, so the game comes out polished, probably multi-platform. In my opinion after that they might grow big enough to start working on other IPs. But personally I prefer quality over quantity, so I don't mind if they carefully build other franchise than the Witcher and craft it with the same skill & passion but not necessarily having several irons in the fire.
