That unreg patch actually works fine on my side, creates a TWEE_Upgrade-Unregistered.exe. But it still wants to go online to register and thats the problem. ive been working on a way to get to not want to register but i cant crack the patchsecurity.exe or the setup.inx file.

Those 2 files are part of the extracted TWEE archive btw, which can be extracted using universal extractor.

It's just occurred to me that while there are differences between the US and International versions of the game. Their is only one version of the TWEE_Upgrade.exe files. Typically the patch has either worked or errored. If it's errored the above fix should work.

Is it possible you could try it on another version of your TWEE_Upgrade.exe file.

Also it shouldnt want to connect right? It should just indicate that the game isnt activated? Although after the patch it does this and then reports it is activated even though the servers are down.

Other than that, I dont know, most of the people I know of had the error and this fixes that so it must be another issue.

EDIT: Just checking your not applying the EE patch and then trying to play are you. If so you will need to apply the 1.5 patch to remove the DRM.

What I was meaning is that it's an Australian rating, not an American one, so it's just weird that we have two different versions of the game here, with the same(I think?) packaging.

avatar
ChorusOfOne: FWIW, that's how they do it in the States with those ratings, they're always printed right on the insert, never a sticker...

avatar
Sui77: The MA rating is printed on as well, it's not a sticker. hm.. weird, but cool :)

There's actually three versions of packaging I've seen here. One of them is the US version.
To make matters more confusing, There are also a couple of different enhanced versions. Of the 3 people that I know actually purchased the EE editions in OZ, 2 have the 1282 release(European) and 1 managed to purchase the 1280 release (US)

It appears the distrubtion of "The witcher" has been far from a smooth process.
Could someone here PM me a link to copy of that program that worked on the us retail version?
Edit: Well that worked. Now I can actually play this game, and hopefully the witcher 2 by the end of this month.

Having trouble here, and I've tried tomdonnely's method. Even following that, I still get the error of it expecting the "TWEE_Upgrade-Unregistered.tmp" - it's as if it can't see it, even being in the same folder.

I've tried about 5-6 times. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?

This is a great game and all, but after a straight week of corrupted GOG.com download attempts, waiting for the servers to come up, and now this, I'm nearly at the end of my rope.

Dont really have a clue. Just to try one more time.

1) Create new directory.
2) Copy the TWEE_Upgrade.exe and Unreg patch file
3) Make a copy of TWEE_Upgrade and call it TWEE_Upgrade-Unregistered.tm
4) There should be 3 files in directory. Unreg+Patch+Copy of patch renamed
5) Run UNreg
6) While unreg is running rename TWEE_Upgrade-Unregistered.tm to TWEE_Upgrade-Unregistered.tmp

When the Unreg patch is finished it should recognise the TWEE_Upgrade-Unregistered.tmp file and patch it and rename it to TWEE_Upgrade-Unregistered.exe.

This exe is the EE patch without the requirement to connect to the server.

After you've run this patch to update The witcher to v1.4 (EE) you still need to apply the 1.5 patch to permanently remove the DRM (and the need to connect to the internet).

It's still making TWEE_Upg files, even if I isolate the required files on their own in a designated folder and follow the above instructions.

Has anyone run into their patch acting this way before, even with the above fix? If so, how did they fix it? My copy is a US retail.

yeah thats normal. The thing is did it also make a TWEE_Upgrade-Unregistered.exe file. If so use that one.
Still the same error, still only spitting out TWEE_Upg every time - nothing else.
I'm completely stumped.

So the file you renamed to TWEE_Upgrade-Unregistered.tmp is still called that and hasnt been renamed TWEE_Upgrade-Unregistered.exe?

Make sure you refresh your directory to ensure its displaying the proper filenames.
can someone PM me this patch fix please, want to upgrade my game to EE and get playing..

I've tried everything exactly how you've said, and still get the tmp error, suppose ill just have to wait it out till they get the servers up
I'm currently in the middle of re-installing my retail version of The Witcher and downloading the patches from the official website.
I'm guessing the registration server is still down?
Oh, DRM, how I love them. I'm guessing it was Atari idea to implement it?
very odd; i was able to install 1.4 from their website without registration. I tried earlier and it failed; but now it seems to work without registration. Also the patch is now a direct download from their site; I think it used to point to softpedia.

1.5 now also installs over the above 1.4; so maybe this was their solution (i saw no annoucement)
