you2: Anyone know when the registration servers will be back for witcher. I have a retail copy 1.3 that I want to update to 1.4/1.5.
avatar
Kleetus: You can get the patches here:

http://www.en.thewitcher.com/the-witcher/1/
You can, but you have to authenticate your version by registering before you can patch, and nobody can do that since the servers are down.

Is that the same for all retail disc versions?

I'm pretty sure I never needed to do that with my version, although it was a long time ago I updated it.

I can't say for sure. I'm also experiencing this as I also have a retail version of the game, but in my case the reason I needed to reinstall was because I upgraded my OS and thus the previous installed version became void. I still had the completely upgraded game so after installing it off the disc I just replaced the folder, but other issues are caused because of this (Geralt doesn't move during conversations and the selection circle for enemies likes to freak out).

I really wish they would bring the servers back up as the only way to fix this would most likely be to install, register and patch in the order intended.
It's still down?!

I guess more people bought the game then they expected. Will try again Sat my time Japan to see if I can register my game or not.
I also have a retail version - and I can't install 1.4 patch because registration servers are down. Any word when when this issue will be solved?

It would be nice to replay the first game before going to Witcher 2. Althought I preffer to have boxed copies, I seriously consider the GOG version of Witche 2 - without any DRM stuff. Just in any case...

PS I know that this isn't an GOG issue, but since official forums are down, I don't have any other place to complain :)
Dang quoted the wrong post; the person above who noted you have to register to install the patches correctly described my situation. I have an early atari copy which means I paid a lot so this is very annoying. It was extremely poor planing by cd projekct they should have run both databases at the same time until they were ready to merge or at the very least had a dummy server that allowed all auth to succeed instead they screw over the legit purchases of the product.

I have the same, exact issue.

I have a copy (DVD) of the game that I bought by my retailer a couple of years back.

I can install the game just fine, but when I try to apply the patches, it asks me to register first.

When I attempt to do so, I get an error message "A connection with the server could not be established".

I can understand the CDP forums being down for whatever reason (launch of the sequel), but not the registration servers to be down for such an extended time (which is over a week now).

This does not look very serious to me. I paid 50€ at the time for a game that I can no longer play in the way that I should (with bugs fixed).

At least provide us with alternative ways to install the patches, without checking for those defunct servers.

Please.

I want to play TW1 again, a game that I supported with my money.

This takes too long. I want to register -> activate -> and play my legally purchased copy of Witcher 1 before the TW2. There is no legal way to do it, so the only way right now is to download a pirated/cracked full updated copy of a game. Great doing developers!
The official forum on http://www.en.thewitcher.com is down as well. They could at least write somewhere, when are servers coming back. Approximately.

sorry for my english I'm Czech

I agree, this situation is profoundly irritating. I just want to play a game I own and I cannot.
Same problem here, I was really excited to play the game again after all these years only to find "The Slayers of the DRM Dragon" just suffered 4th degree burns with us along with it.

Not happy.
What irks the hell out of me is that they refuse to acknowledge the issue. This is why folks hate drm; companies that use them screw over their customers without a hesitation. My temperature would be a lot lower if they would answer support email or post a notice that said it would not be available for 2 weeks or something. Clearly they made a deliberate effort to disable registration and worse they did so without any sort of notice.
I'm in the same boat as you guys. I have a retail copy of the game which I am unable to register and I have emailed support with no response for several days. I guess all we can do is complain loudly enough here and hope someone notices :(
Its a cockup of note, and I for one am disgusted now. Its been a week, not a single acknowledgement of the witcher 1 issue, nothing. I wonder if we have any sort of legal leg to stand on here or least wave menacingly in their direction. They are destroying their reputation to their upuntil now loyal paying customers.

Pull finger and get it right now
This is extremely annoying. I thought i would have the patients to wait a week in order for me to play this game with all the patches, apparently not. I want to register and play now! haha.

Thats not quite right, there is a statement to this situation on http://www.en.thewitcher.com/community/ hidden between all the Witcher 2 Update stuff:
I can't log in to the Witcher 1 account
Please be patient as we bring this feature back. It should be available soon

So at least they know there is a problem and they are working on it, but you're right with one thing: It really is annoying and a hint when we can register The Witcher 1 again would be nice.

I for my turn never really completed The Witcher 1, got stuck in Episode 4. Now I wanted to finish it before I start with The Witcher 2 and I cannot update the game and install the additional adventures, which I wanted to try, too.
I bought the Collectors Edition 3 years ago, so the GOG Version doesn't help me.
I already bought The Witcher 2 here on GOG, at least I can handicraft some nice paperdolls now while I'm waiting :)

If anyone responsible for anything there reads this:
Is there a chance that it will work this weekend? *Please*?

P.S. Edith wants to add that message-formatting (Italic) doesn't seem to work ...
