Now that there is a mac version, I was wondering if there could possibly be a linux port. TBH, if there was a linux version, I would be willing to re-buy the game(I bought the game on steam).

***Darn, accidental spelling error in subject. It was meant to say "The Witcher for linux."

I'd also be willing to purchase a Linux edition of this game.
It would be awsome :D
Just to note, the Windows version of Witcher is perfectly playable on Linux under Wine. No need to rebuy it. You just need some tweaks though. For instance it requires native d3dx9_36 library. Otherwise you'll be stuck at the launcher. You can install it using winetricks for example.

Then, open winecfg > Libraries > existing overrides > d3dx9_36 and set it to "native".

That's it. Of course your hardware and driver need to be up to the task. The best way is to use a decent Nvidia card with Nvidia closed driver. Other options aren't recommended.

There is a noticeable bug - health, endurance and toxicity bars are defunct. But the game still can be played even without them (the values can be actually seen if you hover the mouse over the bars during pause for example). If the health drops too much, you'll hear the stronger heartbeat and the vision will turn gray. So it's an indicator to quickly do something. One can say it's even a bit more challenging and fun to play without those bars if you want to look at it in a positive way.

Of course having a native version of the Witcher on Linux would be awesome, but it doesn't look like CD Projekt Red plan to rewrite Witcher on OpenGL, it's it's just too much work for a small market. The Mac OSX version is not a native OpenGL rewrite either, it's the same Windows DirectX Witcher with Wine wrapper around it. So they'd better fix those Wine related bugs in Wine upstream, and Linux users can have the same experience then.

Hopefully at some point in the future they'll get into making OpenGL based games and will give Linux more attention in result.

I would be happy just having an eON or Wine bottle version that is already tweaked and known to work as a direct download from GOG.

Basically the same treatment that Mac guys got.

Oddly, I haven't had this problem. I'm using a Radeon card, and the various bars work perfectly.

One problem I have had, though, is that the game occasionally stops gracefully accepting keyboard commands. This manifests most obviously as running constantly, occasionally strafing, as though one were holding down the W or A keys. At first I thought this was related to the ALT key; modifier keys often cause trouble for Wine. It appears unrelated, though, so my conflict must lie elsewhere.

This missing bars bug was fixed a while ago in Wine.

I don't remember this keyboard bug happening to me though.

A fellow in #winehq suggests I remove other input devices, such as my joystick. Haven't got around to that yet. I might do so right now, in fact.
No soap. Deus Ex isn't giving me this trouble, either. Wonder what's up.
We could just look up all Witcher for linux petitions on the Wishlist and just up-vote maybe Project CD-Red will listen to that and make it happen.
