Hi,

I already bought the retail version of The Witcher, will I get the GOG.com DRM free version for free or will I have to pay again?

udoh
pay again.
i too have the retail version (uk enhanced version).
i'm gonna get it again from gog, so that way i have a digital backup copy and support CDP, because they rule.
plus, there are many goodies you didn't get on the retail version, like the artbook or the avatars.
if you liked the game, i suggest getting it here again, $4.99 is a great price and great value for money, and CDP need our support to pull off all the good things they do.

:)
If you have the retailgame, then download patch 1.5.
Patch 1.5 removes the Tages DRM and also removes the necessity of using the DVD. You can download it from the official site. I don't know which version you have, but if it is the original non-EE version, then you can download the EE patch and both adventurepacks for free at the official site. Did this myself some years ago, after they came with the EE version.
I purchased the game myself a few monts after the release. Got all the patches after then. In the beginning the game was buggy as hell, but with patch 1.3 it got better and the 1.4 patch or also known as EE patch was a huge improvement. Only those fistfighters sounded wimpy after the EE.
I have the enhanced retail edition as well but I'm going to buy it here on GOG just for the convenience of a Digital download :)
1.5 removes Tages? Hmm.

I tried re-installing my copy yesterday cos (a) I want to replay the extended edition (I bought at launch so I have the original edition on DVD) before W2 comes out and (b) I want to play that new mod that came out.

I have W7 64 bit. I installed the game and managed to get it to run by downloading new Tages drivers off their website. I tried to install the 1.4 mega patch but it insisted I register, so I went through all of that, including a painful fifteen minute wait for the confirmation email. Finally I get to patch 1.4.... no. I get to just about the end and it threw up a CRC error. Re-downloaded the patch, tried again and got the same thing.

At this point I figured I'll just wait until it comes out here and I'll buy it again, but ya know what, I wish they'd release the original Witcher early so I can play through it again first cos otherwise I know I'll just leap straight into the sequel.

I'm going to buy the GOG version when the sale comes up. I really want that calender :D
If I like it, I'm going to purchase the Platinum edition afterwards. I'm so poor, why do I always spend my money on games?

Yes it does. You might still want to uninstall the Tages drivers after that, though.

The official Witcher website is notorious for giving corrupt downloads for large patches. The real patch is about 700MB or so, so if yours isn't that big, it's corrupt. You're actually better off downloading it from fileplanet or somesuch than from the official site. The registration is optional, just download the file from a mirror site and then run the .exe as an administrator.
