There are strange things in this game. For instance, there is a woman wandering around in Chapter 2 who will sleep with you if you happen to have a pair of gloves to give her as a gift! Easter Eggs or whatever you want to call this usually have some kind of payoff, even if it is minor, but this just seems completely pointless.

Agreed. Most the sexual encounters are silly. I personally looked at them first time around, but avoided second time.

Sadly, these seem to be a feature in all three Witcher games. Fortunately they can almost always be ignored.
The point is simple: to collect their 'conquest'/'romance' cards.

It's funny you should mention that because I thought about that, but that's kind of an example of what I mean by saying it's pointless.

Where are these conquest/romance cards? There's no way to look at them afterwards is there? Is there somewhere in the game you can see how many you have collected? They are not an achievement or anything like that, are they? I'm just saying that if you are going to have something like that in a game, let there be some kind of reason you would want to discover it, like you meet her again later and she helps you, or maybe she's married, and her comes after you. How about you gain a talent for discovering a secret? A comical animation? Something, anything.

Yes, there is. Journal >> Characters. A heart means Geralt has bedded the character. For Triss and Shani there is a chance for two hearts. Press the hearts to see the cards.

Well, don't I feel silly? Thanks.

Very nice. But what exactly does it do for game play?

It isn't a game play feature. If that's what you're expecting, then you're barking up the wrong tree. It's a curio; a collector's feature; a Geralt of Rivia bragging thing... call it what you want. It isn't meant to enhance game play, it's the same as many other 'useless' features in almost every other game you can think of.
Just like real life.
It's there because, why not. It's funny for those of us who enjoy a bit of immaturity and boobs.
