Blodskur: If anyone wants to know how this is done, especially on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer that needs administrator write access to your C:/ drive, here are the instructions to do all of it.
First you'll need to install The Witcher, then you should go into the start menu and type notepad, then the Notepad program should appear in the search part. Right click that and press "Run as administrator", and type "witcher.exe -dontForceMinReqs" without the quotation marks into it, then File > Save As and now navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\The Witcher Enhanced Edition Directors Cut\System and save it as witcher.bat
Download 3D Analyze from
here (just left click on the screenshot of it, for the download link) and install that on your computer, again, like Notepad, if you're using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you'll need to right click 3DAnalyze.exe and hit "Run as administrator" every time you want to use it in conjunction with the witcher.bat file you just made. What I did was right click 3DAnalyze.exe > Properties > Compatibility and ticked "Run this program as an administrator" to save some time for a later bit I'll talk about.
Once that's opened, just navigate and select C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\The Witcher Enhanced Edition Directors Cut\System\witcher.bat (you'll need to tell it to look for Batch Files in the drop down menu on the right, after you've hit the SELECT button). Now just click "Open" and then "RUN", if you want to play the game.
You might be probably thinking that it'll be a bit of a pain to do that every time you want to play, which is why I've got some more instructions to speed it up for you. While you're still in 3D Analyze program, you should press "Save batch file!" at the bottom, this will create another batch file, you can save this onto your desktop or wherever. If you click that, you should only get one single prompt before you get into the game, and that'll be the UAC "Do you want to allow the following..." pop up box, just press "yes" and you'll be good to go.
Remember: Windows Vista and Windows 7 users should have right clicked 3DAnalyze.exe > Properties > Compatibility and ticked "Run this program as an administrator" to avoid this error dialogue "Could not copy C:\Program Files (x86)\3d-Analyze\ForceDLL.dll to C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\The Witcher Enhanced Edition Directors Cut\System\ForceDLL.dll!"
THIS WORKS!!!!
I cant thank you enough for this suggestion, you have made my day - 3d analyser and doing the .bat file thing worked
I got this game for free from playing gwent - long story short it just wouldn't run, after many hours I ended up at this post willing to try anything
Even though 3danalyser was meant for older machines that were underpowered, for some reason this was the only thing that would run it for me - I have a fairly ok PC that plays most newer games I try (considering this game is really old now and it is 2018, I know this PC is entry level at best but I paid 50 bucks for it as spares and fixed it so it is good enough for me) I run Windows 10 for gaming and have 8gb Ram and Nvidia GTX560Ti, I can play Warframe on high graphics settings and many others that are pretty high performance and graphics heavy, as long as they don't require 2gb on the video card, mines 1gb - but anyway this Witcher game would not run and it looks like its from the days of Vista when my PC probably would have been higher spec
I could get to the launcher, and then it'd just go off - giving me an APPCRASH error in the dxdiag file
So I tried adding the '-dontforceminreqs' to the extension of a shortcut for the main .exe launcher file and this fix wasn't doing it for me (it did work for my gf however on her pc), then I went through GOG's list of things to try and nothing, went back to older diirectX to try and match what the game may prefer, nothing, and pretty much wasted my Sunday off dicking around with this old game
Finally at my wits end, I see this comment about trying 3dAnalyzer and after looking it up I thought theres no way this is going to be useful for my computer - but it worked -
The first time I tried firing it up through 3danalyzer and the .bat file I had no luck, but I changed 1 setting in the analyser program and it seemed to work -
I selected "FORCE WINDOWED MODE"
I am still having problems in-game with the cinematic cut-scenes in-between missions, the sound plays ok, I can interact with text conversations, but after a second of the scene the picture freezes, but the scene continues to the end the sound is fine and I can press esc to skip if needed
The gameplay is perfect and actually surprisingly great for an oldie like this!
Anyway sorry for the huge reply, THANKS for helping me out man!! and to anyone banging their head against the wall with this game (The Witcher Enhanced Edition) This suggestion using 3danalyzer and the witcher.bat file worked a treat!!!
