umarth: Copied game files to my external hdd to play game on my HP Folio 9470m without installing but game won't launch like the other posts. Same thing happens on other laptop HP DV5 1110et. Tages drivers installed on the gaming PC, not the laptops. This may be relevant.

Waltorious: Are you saying that you simply copied the game files to the new machine, but didnt' actually install the game? I doubt it will work unless you actually run the installer. The GOG version has no DRM so you can install on as many machines as you want. Then you should be able to simply move save files back and forth between the machines.

As to others who can't get the game to run, if the solution isn't in the "Fixes To Common Problems" sticky thread, then I don't know how to fix it, sorry! If you haven't done so already, you should send a message to GOG support and see if they can figure it out.
I can play other game titles like Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, Neverwinter Nigths 2 Complete etc. with using this copy paste method without installing any of them.

Different games, different installation methods. Some games will create the registry entries if they don't find them, some games don't require any registry entries, some games will fail to launch if there are no registry entries. I'd suggest installing properly (or copying over the relevant registry entries) and see if that fixes the problems.

Edit: Forgot to mention, The Witcher also adds a folder or two to the Documents folder, you should probably copy that one over as well.

Yeah I would at least try copying over the Witcher stuff in "MyDocuments", and it it still doesn't work you should try a full install. As I said, you can install as many as you want with the GOG version. Then just copy the saves back and forth between the two machines.
I have a few gog games that won't load unless I'm online. If I don't have an active internet connection I get exactly this error - loads a second then closes. Would love to know why the programs need to check connection before running.
I just encountered this as I tried to move an installation from my SSD to HDD. I have a small SSD that can only hold one game at a time, so when I finished the game I tried moving and it doesn't work. Other NWN engine games do.

So I am going to try a reinstall over the new location and see if that fixes the registry. When something won't work after a move it is almost always registry...

Edit :
Finished my reinstall, and all is well. A small annoyance. At least I didn't delete the install files, so I didn't have to re-download.

Pretty much losing my mind over this. I've never had a game NOT work, it seems there's always a fix or hack to get them going. In this case, NOPE!

Bought two versions, first Steam and then here. NEITHER WILL WORK.

I bought the series since I've never played them and want to run them through in order. No go!

System is beefy, Intel Quad, 8GB, yadda yadda.

What is it with this game that's so bugged? No error, no notice, no flicker, just... NOTHING, no matter what I do.

EDIT: Neither the witcher.exe or launcher.exe will do ANYTHING at all when run-as-admin.

A/V is disabled,

This thread might help you. Check under "Game crashes on startup, no error message just drops back to desktop". Try all the four solutions mentioned in that thread, hope it fixes for you.

Cheers.

Good suggestion but it didn't help. I've tried some goofy stuff but at this point, I'm about to toss in the towel...
That's pretty weird.
- After double clicking the launcher.exe, do you see "the witcher game launcher" application and "launcher.exe" process running in Task manager ?
- Have you tried running in 640x480 resolution ? (Compatibility -> Run in 640x480 resolution -> Apply)

Reason of edit : Changed correct name of witcher launcher application.

^^ I have, and every combination, thereof. And no, there's no message or anything, no black screen, nothing.

As for TaskManager, I see the exe for a brief moment then nothing. It's gone.

Which OS are you using ? I have tested in Win7 x64 and ArchLinux (with few workaround in Arch) and it's working fine.
Did you try updating DirectX and MS VC++ x64 ?

In my Windows machine, MS VC++ x64 2005, MS VC++ 2012 x64 11.0.50727 and MS VC++ 2012 x86 11.0.61030 are installed. Hope this info might help you get the game working.

Good luck.
So I just reinstalled The Witcher 3. When I try to play the game, it tells me that my installation comes with the GOG Client 1.01 patch for FREE! (My client is currently on patch 1.1.9)
Then I get the options "Not interested" which sends me to the GOG home page or "QUIT" which closes the message window and then nothing happens.
Has anyone else run into this and did you manage to solve it? (In that cas how).
Thank you for your time.

And you thought that necro'ing a 6 year old thread to say nothing would help? Smart, professor!
