fragonard: I have a 5770 and I'm get lines radiating out of the characters, PC and NPC. I've tried all the settings mentioned above but no luck; any else have this problem?

sear: What do you mean by "lines" exactly? If it's stretched polygons (as in, bits of characters and objects appearing as if they're being "pulled" out into the distance, like so: http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/4777/bf2776si.png), chances are it's either a driver problem, or hardware damage. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card, motherboard, etc. If that does nothing, it could indicate you have deeper problems with your system, potentially related to overheating or other damage.
Yes, that's what it looks like (but not as bad) I doubt it's a hardware or heating problem because I have no problems with any other games and the GPU heatsink is barely warm.
I don't have the very latest drivers but why would a three year old game need them?

Simplex: So it's not only nvidia, as TParis suggested. As much as I love CDPROJEKT, GoG and Witcher, they seriously dropped the ball on this. Why is this STILL not fixed?
Because it is a problem in the game engine, which is a product of BioWare. You should be asking why hasn't BioWare fixed this yet.

I too have the HD5770 and I got the problem because my monitor's native resolution is 1440x900 (16:10).
The only solution that lets you keep lightning settings at high is using a 16:9 resolution instead. My monitor supports 1360x768 but it looked bad because it was being stretched so I decided to create a custom resolution that matched the pixel width of my monitor. In my case the resolution is 1440x810 but you'll have to do the math for your monitor. I get letter-boxing but it is minimal.

Instructions for creating a custom resolution with ATI can be found here: http://www.ehow.com/how_7649449_add-custom-resolution-ati.html
If you update Catalyst the registry setting will be deleted so you'll have to create it again every time you update.

Nvidia has a setting to do this in its control panel but I never got it working when I had my Geforce 8800 GTS. I could create the resolution but it had pilar-boxing as if it were 4:3 and desktop panning because the black bars wouldn't let the whole desktop show.

I currently play the witcher in windowed mode to avoid the problem. How do you force the game to run in 16:9 aspect ratio with black bars on a 16:10 monitor (ATI 5870)?

Hi, just pick a 16:9 resolution in the game options.

List of 16:9 Resolutions:

852x480-----16:9
1280x720-----16:9
1365x768-----16:9
1600x900-----16:9
1920x1080-----16:9

edit: don't know about the black bars.

TParis: Blocky rendering of the characters in dialgoues is a well known issue in The Witcher. It seems to happen only for Nvidia users.
I had that problem too when I played the Witcher a while ago. I'm using an Ati HD 4890 card. Switching to a 16:9 res 'fixed' the problem for me.

Verwandlung: Yes, I run the game in 1920x1080 windowed, but the screen stretches in that resolution on a 1920x1200 monitor in fullscreen mode. Is there an option to display the witcher letterboxed in the 16:9 format (h black bars) ?

edit: nvm...found the ATI Catalyst control options.

I quickly read this so pls bear with me. I had a Radeon 4870 on a 1440x900 19" screen and upgraded my monitor to a 1920x1200 and the games always scaled upwards (fuzzy) I had read that I needed to lower my resolution THEN the center timings option became available in CCC...thus whatever res I choose in the game options the video card followed.

I also am using 64bit Win7 which I believe has issues with Radeons in DX10 mode for window mode...full screen was fine.

Maybe this will help you?
Could someone please explain how to get an ATi card to center letterboxed games properly? I've got a 16:10 monitor and have set TW to run at 16:9, but I've got one big bar on the right of the screen. If there's a way to put the game in the middle with two smaller bars either side, I'd love to know it. I'd been under the impression that center timing options were only available on NVidia cards.

BlackMageJ: The "Use centered timings" option is available under the My Digital Flat-Panels/Properties tab in the ATI Catalyst.

Gidzin: Thanks.
Try lowering the light / shadow related settings?
