Hello?

What planet are we living on? This game company just up and decides it's time to release it's game DRM free before it's sequels release. Why should I support them now?

You could buy it to support GOG and support DRM-free. 5-6 years ago we old-timers would have essentially never thought we'd get a title like this here, a "AAA" game only a few years old, so even if you dislike the devs or publisher but are interested in the game, consider snagging it especially while it's on sale.
Insta-buy all DLC too... Looks amazing, sounds amazing, gameplay is fun without being overly souls like and a PITA for casuals... from what i hear as i get better i can really beef it up and have fun later on.
Personally I have not played the Surge before, simple reason why I bought it.

Additionally, as others sad before you support the developers and encourage them to go the DRM-free path of publishing.

It may be late, but better than not at all.
Also I guess this is a test, if the selling numbers allow a on-time-release of the sequel, which would be even better for GOG-customers.
So played overnight, got to the first boss, died twice then found the pattern (actually easy but I'm dumb and new to these style of games) and it has been so much fun. It's truly as hard as you let it be, i love that we as players control so much of the games difficulty with our choices and actions... I love this game!
I already own this on Steam and honestly I am stuck at the second base for quite some while. This game is just extremely hard without any option to turn down the difficulty. So I am fighting with myself if I should really spend monea again to get a game DRM-free which might be a game I am not good enough for ....
This is my first time playing a game like this and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I would buy the sequel here, if GOG can acquire it. Being able to save manually would be nice, but it's not so bad that I can't. I just have to be careful like I was with some of the Bard's Tale series. They only let me save at an inn.

Do it!
And if you feel that you are not "good enough" try other weapons or methods in approaching the enemies.
Thats what i always have to do when i am stuck in some areas in these kind of games :D

Thank you for the comment, this is the "review" I am looking for.

I stopped counting how often I died ;)
But maybe you could give me some hints? I searched the internet and unfortunately there's not much about the actual regular combat to be found. You have a vertical and a horizontal attack and you can evade using A ... but when I look at videos people are fighring without getting hit and it looks so flawless. I don't even know which attack I should use... horizontal? Vertical? I end up pressing both like crazy and evade ... even though it's hard to evade those fast enemys with the claws. Yes, I know I am bad and I was so glad when I finally managed to beat the first area. Any advide is appreciated and it might help me in my decision to buy the game again - at least the base game :)

The attacks with R1 are lighter and faster, the attacks with R2 are slower but do a little bit more damage.
Sometimes it helps to hit the enemy once and then back off and its important to observe the attack patterns...
i am not good in those games myself but those things help alot if i am in a death-loop :-D

And in my opinion - Stamina is VERY important. I watch alot of videos where people have a very long healthbar and can do one swing with the weapon and have to recover... but that is only my playstyle.

well, at least it is drm free now. which means I am willing to support them now.
Why should I not support a company that releases an amazing game DRM-free? Last year we got Lords of the Fallen too and I really loved it. Was hoping ever since that we will be getting The Surge.

I'm not supporting companies that stay Steam-exclusive, but the moment they release something I really want on GoG,I will immediately buy it.

Also yeah the game is hard, but it's possible to learn the patterns. It's quite different for each enemy though. For some dodging works, for other you need to block. Something you need to block and and press up/down to evade. It's very very hard at first, but you will eventually get it down.
In my whole playthrough (past black cerberus right now), I never needed to learn how to block. One stamina implant, operator-class armor (liquidator for it's bonus), light weapon (single-rigged works - barely. Staff is better). Circle the enemy, wait for their attack or combo to finish (it will either miss while circling or I help them miss by jumping in the direction I circle them). Do jump attack, then either jump back, jump to the side or do couple more quick (LMB) attacks while enemy is staggered (depends on what I'm fighting). Worked on absolutely everything so far, including bosses. I just have to be more careful with the timing when fighting a boss.

(Doesn't counter what RyaReisender wrote, just offering alternative that did work for me)
